Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

I just aquired a box full of antique jewelry. I am trying to research this piece but am stummped at what to call it. I would like to list it on ebay but can not find anything on it. Does anyone know? It is marked A & LL and then 3 hallmarks with the last one being a d.

I am new here and hope I have posted in the right place. Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Hi Yesi,

First you'll need to match your hallmarks here - each mark has a meaning

This is the world mark page of 925-1000, it can be a little overwhelming at first but read it carefully and then match your marks to what you see listed

If you have trouble reading the 925 site, try this one...basically the same info, just laid out differently

As far as the design, it looks like a crest of some type to me...I would try to  pinpoint a date from the 925-1000 page, along with the country of origin and then google that with "sterling silver crest brooch" and you'll have some matches (hopefully:))

I need to do some listings but I'll check back in a bit and see if I can speed you along with your process

...and Welcome to The Vintage Village!:)

Thanks Pam! I'll start my investigating! Thanks for the warm welcome :)

Yesi,

If that one mark is a lion (it's hard for me to tell), then the piece is British - use this link

http://www.925-1000.com/british_marks.html

Found it!  A&LL is Adie & Lovekin Ltd, Birmingham England - the hallmark in this link is from 1904

Scroll about 1/2 way  down and you'll see it!

...now you can google Adie & Lovekin Crest Brooch and see what comes up:)

Wow!!!! You are the best! Thanks!

good job, thanks for the info! this helps me with some items I have been trying to ID too! best wishes to all.....nance from nancesnostalgia and vintagebooklover

Cool brooch.  Let me know when you put it on Ebay!

I'm a bit late to the party, but I just saw this.  The date letter is for 1903.  The flower is a Scottish thistle.  One flower jewel is amethyst, I'm sure, the other?  The outer border is agate.  It's lovely.

It's a nice example of Scottish pebble jewelry, as Old Grey Mare has stated.

It looks like it may be a Luckenbooth brooch -- and from here I'm seeing  amethyst, topaz (aka cairngorm), bloodstone, and jasper.

It's beautiful!

Thanks for the info. I still don't know what to sell it for.
