Hello fellow shop keepers, I stumbled across this in my email this morning-Trembu.com a selling venue for nearly anything of value. Looks like a neat place, we might have to have a group here at the VV for it. One question, please comment on your thoughts regarding traffic-will it be like Ruby Plaza only now with fees? They will have Google checkout by the end of June. Look for the "intro" on You Tube.
I have jumped ship to eCrater but may get my toes wet there. Hmmmm?

Maybe it is known and I just haven't heard of it before but I do a lot of AVC research on Google and have never come across it???
There are so many known & well established venues around, especially for AVC, that I would personally suggest sticking with those...although yes, one can still get the rug pulled out from under you even with them....which is why there are RP "orphans" who never imagined RL would close it!!!!!
Have you looked through the groups here for other established selling venues?

Permalink Reply by PenniLea's Vintage Places on June 13, 2012 at 7:11am Thanks for your insight! Yes I have pondered opening a shop on Etsy for my vintage items and am trying Ecrater with no sales there yet. I know I need to promote that one but am just figuring out how it all works, the shipping does not have great options when you have smaller and larger packages. I'm just hoping to land a great home.

yes you can add more than one shipping option on eCrater...eg in the weight calculated area, I have first class and parcel...when the weight I have for the listing is 13 oz or lower, eCrater automatically adds first class and when it is over 13 oz they add parcel to the purchase order.
You do have to do a lot your own promotion for eCrater, although they do get a lot of general site traffic, and because they are a Google partner, they show high in Shopping and organic Google search (Etsy is also a Google partner site). Etsy is very user friendly IMO, although Vintage is still very much in second place to handmade there. Self promotion really is essential on any marketplace!

Permalink Reply by PenniLea's Vintage Places on June 13, 2012 at 8:04am Oh yes I see where the calculated shipping will change from First Class toPriority and Parcel. However I don't see where it might account for a package over 12 inches "Large Package" (which depending where it ships can make a huge price difference).
And I agree, I need to promote, or learn how that is, and here at VV looks like a great place to start!

Permalink Reply by CheriShops - Admin on June 13, 2012 at 8:08am that is why it is best to choose parcel not priority...priority rates increase dramatically for anything over 12 inches but parcel "large" is a very much bigger measurement...certainly larger than most of us would ever use...if you check the rates on USPS site you will see what I mean

Permalink Reply by PenniLea's Vintage Places on June 13, 2012 at 8:13am Oh good point, and I suppose I can always "upgrade" to Priority shipping where applicable. I have seen Parcel cost more than Priority be rarely. Maybe I should remove those options?

Permalink Reply by CheriShops - Admin on June 13, 2012 at 8:16am when it is a lower weight to a closer zone, priority is often less and then I just ship it priority instead...customer sure doesn't mind!! ;-)

Permalink Reply by CheriShops - Admin on June 13, 2012 at 5:24pm erp good reminder Ma'am...I still have to wrap my own brain around the fact that it IS for other stuff now too, and not just repurposed vintage *blush*....plus that we can sell directly there!

But the point is that the more folks that join and the more content we add the bigger the site becomes because that is what Google and other search engines look for is daily relevant content. It took years to build TVV but we did it because of the community and everyone doing what they could manage to spread the word and VR needs that kind of help also.
I do have a daily FaceBook Ad going and as we get more members I can increase my daily budget for it.
I really believe in Vintage Rising and I think with enough activity, it could be bigger then TVV at some point.
I know there are a lot of free places to list, but they are big corporations and we are a small Mom & Pop operation trying to give folks a place to promote and sell just by grass roots efforts through Social Networking.
I don't suggest that anyone put all their eggs in one basket. IMHO I think that is a disaster waiting to happen. Vintage Rising is just another option and your faith and support in the vision for both sites is what will make them successful. I can't do this alone! :)
I don't mean to give a sales pitch but if we work together, we can make both sites the absolute best there is to offer.
