The Vintage Village

Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

Hi Everyone,

This is not something I am not too sure about doing because I worry that it will prevent people from joining, but I am going to change the settings here so that anyone wanting to Join as a member, must be approved first.

This is the only way for right now to get a handle on Spammers who have increased their presence here.

The public will still be able to view everything, but if a person wants to join and post etc., they will have to be approved first.

The approval process will help us see spammers before they join and reject them on the spot.

I think it's the right move.   Sorry you have to do it because of annoying spammers though.  But I have seen the posts here late at night and it's disturbing!  I don't think anyone should mind being approved to join.

Thanks for all you do to make this site fantastic!

Agreed, the right move.  I definitely don't think anyone will mind and it will probably be more beneficial in the long run, as those who are interested in joining may be put off when they see the spam, more than they would be miffed at having to be approved:)

phew...it was a major relief not to have to have spam for breakfast today !!!!!!

;-)

lol!!  Very bad for the blood pressure:)

Fantastic. The Vintage Village is worth joining. The place to be for all who truly love vintage and antiques.

I call it my parking place where they pass out diamonds.

I agree...your decision is the correct one.  As TVV grows bigger and bigger, it's becoming more attractive to the ilk  of the spam sort...

actually that is a great point Pam

Well all I can say is it worked!!!! I had a pending approval and they didn't know the answer to the profile questions and put dots in the answer boxes they couldn't correctly answer.... so it works.

We may get a live person who sneaks in from time to time and we will just have to deal with that as it comes but this should prevent the majority of it folks!

Thanks for being patient and understanding about this folks!!! :)

I'm glad you are doing this!  Sharp cookies!!

Good business move.

not sure how you power your site and if any plugins are available but on my site I use plugins and it reduced spam by almost 100%, having to approve everyone manually an be very time consuming. Good luck

I do agree with having the approvals.....time consuming, but also cuts back on spam getting in, and other nasties too. Was a good move to do.
