Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

Step by Step Tutorial for Customizing Your NING My Page

There is already great information in the VV forums for customizing your My Page, but I posted this thread in the Costume Jewelry Collectors International (CJCI) forum and thought it might also be helpful for some VV members to have a quick reference tool with step by step instructions.  It's very easy to do and you should feel free to play around with it, but this will help get you started:

In the Upper Left Column, click on "Customize My Page" (this will take you to the Edit Appearance of Your Page area)

On this page, you can select a ready made theme (use the arrows in the upper right to scroll through more selections), or continue with the following steps.

In the Lower Center of the page, click on the "All Options" tab.

  • In All Options, you can upload images, select custom colors, etc.

A few helpful tips for customizing the look of your My Page:

  • "Side Image":
    • If you want the background color to be seen on the left side, the Side Image will need to have a clear background.
    • NING will automatically crop the Side Image, so play around with the size.
  • Don't like the color choices available?  You can enter custom HTML color codes in any of the color boxes.  Just click on any color box, and enter the code.  You can do a Google search for "HTML Color Codes" or visit this site which has a handy HTML color chart.
  • If you want a patterned "Body" (like my blue wallpaper), just do a Google search for "Tiled Wallpaper" and click on Google Images.
    • Tiled wallpaper images are specially designed to repeat on every side, creating a continous pattern.
    • In Google Images, you can narrow the search by color and content.
    • When you find a pattern you like, right click on it to save it to your computer (make sure it isn't copyright protected first).
    • Finally, upload it to "Body Image" and select "Tile Image" in the drop down box.
  • To remove the VV banner at the top of the page, click on the "Advanced" tab to the left of the "All Options" tab.
    • Select and delete everything in this box.
    • Replace it with the following:   #application_name_header_link {display: none;}
    • Be sure to click "Save" when you're finished!!!!

A few helpful tips for customizing the layout of your "My Page"

  • When you are on your My Page, you can click on the top bar of any section to drag and drop it to change the order of the sections.
  • You can also click on "Edit" on the upper right corner of any section to change the options available for that section.
    • For instance, on the "My Photos" section, you can choose whether your photos will loop in a slideshow or display as thumbnails.

I've posted some screenshots below of some of the steps referenced above for customizing your My Page:
