The Vintage Village

Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

Chat

If you are new to our site, our focus is the field of Antiques, Vintage & Collectible items.

We have members with years of experience and a vast knowledge in the field of "AVC" for short.

The goal of the Live Chat is to aid anyone who needs a little help figuring out what they have or at the very least, how to research it on your own.

We are not appraising items, but instead giving you any information we can to help you in your search. If we get stumped by your item, we will say so!

If you do not wish to use the live chat feature here, you can visit our Vintage Detectives Category and post your pictures and ask questions as an alternative.

Refer to this thread for help with posting and picture size

If you make a mistake delete your post and start over.

Click HERE for the Chat "How To"

Our Chat Room is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Please note that in the future, in an effort to keep threads from getting too long, I will close (not delete) the thread when I thinks it's appropriate and begin a new one, to make reading through all the info easier for everyone. I will avoid closing it mid topic, therefore there won't be any specific rule when it will close.

It's wonderful....everyone here knows everything...just kidding...c'mon...you got a question...throw it out there...any new venue takes a few minutes/hours/days/weeks/ to get off the ground.  This is a great idea...and..you have dedicated volunteers that have offered to HELP....

I can't wait! We have some really great topics we will cover this weekend. Great wealth of knowledge here in our Village.

All you need to do is join the site, which is totally FREE, and begin posting in the chat room (here is the link to it) or simply post right here in this thread.

You can add a picture or attach a file of a picture.

Here is a sample of both a file and a picture

No worries if you are not sure how to do it, we will walk you through it... :)

I have this porcelain Japanese teapot that has a backstamp. Does anyone know which company this is? I haven't been able to locate this stamp. The pot is from c 1960, I believe.

The best site for this is

http://gotheborg.com/marks/index_jap_marks.htm

Noritake/Nippon began subcontracting this cherry blossom mark in the 1920's, to smaller porcelain companies that were manufacturing for export to the US.  I can't find the exact one with the "T" mark but there were many and each added their own initial to the inside of the mark.  Maruto Mu Ware used a "T" but I can't find one inside the cherry blossom, so this could be an earlier piece.

When you click on the link scroll down about 1/4 of the way for the cherry blossom and about 1/2 way for Maruto Mu

Hope this helps:)

Three vintage lucite purses.  Two Wilardy, the front and left, one Stylecraft, Miami, the right black.  Each has some minor damage.  A closed crack on the two Wilardy's, a small chip to the back near the hinge on the Stylecraft.  This is SO not my area, but they were given to me.  How much does minimal damage affect pricing?  I have no clue about pricing either, my research shows it all over the place, but I know we're not doing appraisals.  Thanks!

those are sooo nice Dexter. Not my area of expertise but when I needed help re lucite bags I found it on a great site, and the lady who runs it even emailed me back with great info! http://www.bagladyemporium.com/blu/index.php?n=Main.HomePage

This Manhattan set looks to me like US Glass from the first of the century. The bits around the bulleyes are much crisper. Wanted to see what others thought.

Mare I just sold a Lucite box purse for $65.00, it had no cracks. I do know that a couple of years ago, that purse would have fetched in the $100's.

Thanks Cozy, appreciate your information!  I think I'll probably put them on eBay and let the market decide.

Does anyone know about inkwells?  I picked this one up because I like the mythical creature on top, looks like part dog/part dragon.  It is heavy cast metal, gilded and has faces on the sides.  About 4.5 inches tall, 2.5 inches wide.

Is it safe to say it's from the 19th century or is there a way to date it?  Any ideas on the creature are welcome too!

that sure is nice! The only thing I know about inkwells is they are highly prized collectibles that bring nice $$$ :)

I know this may sound a little nuts...but could it be Chinese?  They do have a mythical dog/dragon that comes in may varities...and they did make the gilded inkwells in animal shapes...I found a turtle...still searching:)  The link above gives a basic knowledge of dating the different wells
