Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

Can anyone tell me what this is? All I can figure is it's a canister. Does this look like sterling to you? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thank you so much!

Sterling can't be determined by "looking". Could be silverplate.

Does the glass part easily slide out? Are there any marks inside?

The etched number could be an inventory number ...

Do you have a silver testing kit?

Could be a biscuit jar. Or a pickle castor, but those usually have a frame and a pickle fork with them.

Thank you No the glass doesn't feel like it slides out at all. It does not have any forks either. I guess I should probably purchase a silver kit. Thank you for your help. :)

I wonder if it's a pickle castor without the frame? Do those things slip out of the frame? I don't see any slots or anything.

Does the top have glass also? Tobacco jar.

Victorian? Turkish? Interesting. I like it.

Hello "A Walk Through Time"...do you think it could be a funeral urn, for ashes?  I've had a similar piece in blue glass that I know was an urn..

maybe a tea caddy?

maybe I missed it above but what is the size?

I am agreeing with A walk Through time that it is a pickle castor, but could be biscuit jar as well. I have seen these listed on ebay
