I found this sweet 22" doll in an attic trunk. Her head and arms are composition. Her body is cloth with a metal circle at center back (perhaps a crier, but no noise now). Her blue eyes open and close. She comes complete with undergarments, black Mary Jane shoes, lace-trimmed slip, floral dress, blue fur-trimmed coat and matching hat as found. I also have a shoebox full of her other clothing, as well. Her maker's mark is on the back of my neck as shown. There are some cracks under the hairline, and a bit of age to her face and hands, otherwise she is in very good condition. Any information you can provide about age, maker, price, etc. would be helpful.
I can't see the letters inside the diamond but I believe that's the Ideal diamond. Can you make out IDEAL inside. Do the dolls eyes move side to side or close separately? She looks a bit like Flossie Flirt. There were a lot of these dolls of this type made in the 30's and 40's with compo head, shoulderplate, arms and legs on cloth bodies. They're commonly referred to as Mama Dolls if the exact name can't be identified.
Sitting with the doll right in front of me, I can't decipher any specific letters on the interior of the diamond, but I will view other IDEAL dolls to compare the marks. Her eyes open and close only with no side-to-side movement. Her legs are all cloth. Thank you for responding! This gives me several specific places to look for more information.
Debdoll, yes, it is the Ideal symbol. I found Flossie Flirt and she does not have the flirty eyes, but very similar in face and design. Mama Dolls reference = also very helpful. Thanks so much!!!
Just saw this thread and as a doll lover, collector and seller I am again in love.. Such a sweet, sweet baby doll.
You are most welcome for the help, Cassie. She's a sweetheart and her clothing is wonderful too!
I am going to be listing this sweet little girl soon, so watch for the post. Yes, debdoll, the clothing is just the sweetest ever. :-) Thank you both for responding.
