Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

I have bunches of buttons from my mom and my moms friend and their moms. I want to make jewelry from some of them but I have no idea how. Does anyone want to share what they have done?

Hi There. I have untold numbers of buttons from generations of family members and I still buy button boxes and tins at sales whenever I find them. The really good ones I sell on my Etsy site www.vintageartssupply.etsy.com but I use many of the simple ones to do jewelry, collage and lots of other stuff with. Check out my jewelry site www.vintagearts.com and you will see them hidden (like Where's Waldo) in so many of my jewelry pieces. I bury them in my trays, sew them on my cards, string several small ones together and hang them from necklaces. I've used larger ones as backgrounds to mount dichroic glass on. I drill small holes with a Dremmel to add jumprings and charms. Layer them and make pins out of them. They are the most versital and interesting part of my jewelry.
I hope this helps. Have fun.

I'm sorry. Try this http://www.vintagearts.etsy.com. I can never figure out why sometimes it works and sometimes not. I wish someone would tell me. If it doesn't work go to etsy and just type in Vintagearts under sellers. I can't wait to see what you do with yours.

Hi Charmings,

Buttons are so much fun for jewelry. You can really do a lot with them. I just finished a necklace this week using all mother of pearl buttons. You can see some of my bracelets on my page. There are also some wonderful books and even tutorials on the net for making button jewelry. If you have any questions let me know. Good luck!
I do have a suggestion! Go to Etsy and do a search in handmade on button jewelry! I was amazed at the variety and skill levels represented there! Lots of good ideas!!!! amy
Are you using copy and paste to post your links? Also make sure that you are at your shop the public sees and not just the "my etsy" page. Maybe that's why the link didn't work....don't know. The link to vintagearts.com didn't work either, or was that supposed to be an etsy shop too? Your collage work is intricate! Wow!

Hi Jill. No I don't use cut and paste but of course I should. I have three sites and most of the time I don't know where I am myself. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get back to your site????

I love using buttons in my jewelry work! Here are a few examples of pieces that I've used buttons in. Some are my collage brooches, some are simply little button brooches that are only buttons. Then there's my prim feathered friend, a crow, my 'sewing box thief', who has buttons on his wings and around the base of his stand.
Have lots of fun with your lovely buttons!
