Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

Good Morning,

I'm think of opening an Etsy store along with my new eCrater shop (I am currently an orphan of Ruby Plaza), as I was deciding on how to arrange categories on eCrater I was wondering if I could have a "Sold" section and if putting "0" into the listing  quantity would keep it from being for sale.  Possibly eCrater wouldn't like this?  I suppose I could ask them.

Maybe I am trying to take "free" too far! ;)

As far as I remember when attempting a "0" in quantity, an error message appears.

When an item sells, it is placed on hold for you, so long as your items are paid through PayPal and/or Google (if you have elected to use these for checkout).

As to Etsy, that is another story...never tried them and couldn't help with the question.  Look for another Group here for Etsy.

Thanks!  I didn't try it, I was just unsure how it all works as I have yet to have my first sale on eCrater-I'm not sure what happens or what it all looks like.  The reason I thought about opening an Etsy shop is that I'm concerned about how shipping works on eCrater regarding larger packages as I see that the USPS calculator doesn't account for it. I found that you can't swap back and forth from the shipping claculator, the matrix and free shipping per listing. Having only sold on eBay and Ruby Plaza, I'm just scrambling (like others I'm sure) to become established where I may have a good selling season this fall and a good understanding of how my venue works.  I'm so glad to have come across such helpful shop owners-Thank you!

I agree, ecrater's shipping matrix is the worst ever, but calculating can be easy once you decide how you want to list your items: by the ounce or by the pound.  I've elected to set my matrix up by the ounce, as most of my items fall under 1 lb weight.  I use my #14 as a 1-2 lb weight.  I then state in my listing that it is only an approximate amount, based on a destination furthest from my home.  I ask that the buyer contact me prior to purchase.

That being said, I am sure I lose plenty of buyers with the large shipping amount.  If, however, a buyer purchases an item and they are overcharged in shipping, I simply reimburse.  Always makes for a happy customer! :-)

Major thing to remember is to promote!  Use VV, Yahoo Groups, etc to promote.

in ecrate every item in your inventory must be available for sale

I found the hard way that you can only have one calculated shipping method. My shipping is first class, but I had one item that had to go priority so I did that and my whole store was changed to priority. However I have seen some who offer two options in ecrater, don't know about that.
