The Vintage Village

Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

My community doesn't have any sort of recycling pick up, but that doesn't mean I can't recycle!  A friend that does have pick up takes my plastics and glass.  There's a paper recycling center in the parking lot of a nearby CVS, and Best Buy and other large retail stores take all batteries, computers and the like. You have to go once in a while to those stores anyway, so leave the box in your car so you won't forget.

And like most online sellers who have to package and ship their goods, I reuse plastic bags, pop paper, tissue paper, and boxes as long as I can.

Recycling helps me with sorting my jewelry supplies. I keep all those crystal light little plastic containers; like the little ones you get when you take home salsa at Baja Fresh or something like that. They're awesome little guys that keep all my stuff organized!

My father is a big RRR guy (reduce, reuse, recycle) that learned from his father never to let anything waste (a throwback to the times during the Great Depression) and that rule still applies today!

Good tips, Behr! I plan to look for battery and computer recyclers this week.

My community has recycling pick-up but I don't use it because there's a fee. Instead, I take my recycling to one of the dumps, which has big recycling bins I can use for free. Like you, I also reuse everything I can, including packaging materials. Not only does it help the environment, it saves me money...always a good thing :)

I am lucky to live fairly near a recycling center that takes most everything except Styrofoam. I recycle about 85% of my garbage. I bought a laundry hamper that has 4 removable bag and they hang on a rolling rack. I labeled each bag like pop bottles, cans and glass and paper. Then I just take the bag when full to the recycle center. Once you get a system that works for you, it's easy to keep it going.

Also a lot of my clothes and shopping is garage sales. Then when I am ready to get rid of stuff I take to the local charity centers.

I pass by 2 huge landfills on my way to work and home. It make you think different when you see these big ugly mountainous landfills......
