Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

I use recycled packing materials all the time to pack up my sales (clean of course), unless a buyer states they want new.  I actually have that clause in my shop.  I am lucky that I can get all I want at my old job :)

But I know there are other ideas out there that everyone uses, and I thought your ideas might help other members to use things that they hadn't thought of.

So, what do you use that might not be the norm??

I use recycled bubble wrap to package my items too - I know it's a small thing, but I have never had to buy bubble wrap so I guess that is a tiny "green" thing I do - besides selling vintage, which is TOTALLY green - lol

I have often wondered why vintage items do not get as much recognition as green items as I feel they should. There are so many wonderful advantages to the environment to purchasing pre-loved items, as well as to the preservation of our history.

I have received items packaged in shredded paper, which is a green option, but I don't actually like to receive things packaged this way - and I HATE peanuts! LOL However, the other day I did receive a package with shredded paper as packing material that was placed in a ziplock bag. Unless the bag was recycled it may or may not have been "green," but the paper was, and this created a wonderful, uncluttered, sturdy packing material!

I do use reclyed newspaper to stuff my boxes for cushoning, I do bubble wrap everything and I don't get mine for free. I also use foam that comes with certain items you buy and save them also for a cushion especially for my sewing patterns so they don't get bent. I do not like peanuts used them once and never again. Sometimes I use shredded paper but it does make the box heavier than using rolled newspaper. I mostly use the boxes from the post office or pick up empty boxes from the stores and when I order books they usually send them with air ballons and whatever else they use and save that for my books that I sell. I am for using recyled stuff why create more garbage to fill our land. I like that one about the egg cartons I will now use them maybe with the newspapers. :) Thanks for adding this!
What a great idea for using egg cartons! Since I only sell jewelry I'm not sure I could use it, but this would be a great idea for bigger items. I think newspapers are a good idea too, but I agree that I prefer them crumpled as padding rather than shredded. I save all the bubble wrap from any package I receive, take all the tape off of it, and roll it up - I think I could probably bubble wrap my entire house...I may have a problem...
lol you are not alone. One buyer emailed me and told me she had enough bubble wrap to last her a very long time. I apologized thinking she was upset, but no she was very grateful cause the glassed I sent her were very delicate.

LOL - I have seen where people request that a seller not use too much packing material, and that's just crazy! I understand maybe they are trying to be green, but I am always grateful when something is packaged well, especially something fragile. I would much rather have too much packing for something glass or fragile than too little! Definitely no worries with that here - I wonder if I could use bubble wrap as insulation...hmmm
Be careful you don't use it as a body wrap it might melt away the pounds lol
Oooooo - good idea! Plus, if I fall down, it won't hurt me! Yet another green use for bubble wrap!
I do the exact same thing. I keep a running bag of packing materials in the attic. When the bag gets full, I put it on Freecycle if I get more than that. Keeps things from getting too cluttered, but it also keeps things from getting thrown away.

I also have that clause in my policies--that if people want new packaging, they should let me know.
