The Vintage Village

Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

Here’s everything you need to know about the Photos on our Site.

  Viewing

  • On the Main Page of our site, is a "Slide Show" of pictures. The Slide Show only contains pictures of AVC items (Antiques, Vintage & Collectibles) that are available for purchase.
  • The Slide Show represents only the 100 most recently added photos. To view All Photos click on the VIEW ALL icon at the bottom right corner of the slide show, or use the Tab Button at the top of any page that says Go Shopping!!! . This will place you in Gallery Mode.
  • Click on the photo, title or members name to access it.
  • By clicking on the members Avatar or name, you can go to that members page to see what else they offer, leave a comment, read their Blog posts... etc.,.

Guidelines for Slide Show (Premium Members Only)

  • Each Premium Member is allowed up to 30 pictures of Antique, Vintage & Collectible Vintage items ONLY. Additional pictures may be purchased.
  • If you have more then 30 items you want people to see, or as items get sold, delete them and submit new ones in their place as often as you like. It's up to each member to make sure links to sold or expired items are removed.
  • Pictures must have all of the 4 things listed below or they will be rejected:
  1. A proper title
  2. Keywords or tags
  3. A brief description
  4. A way to buy the item { ex; live link to Etsy, RubyLane, your Web site}  or some form of contact information if you choose to sell the item like a Classified Ad.

We give you 48 hours from submission date to add this info or it will be rejected. Let us know if you need help listing, we are here to help you :)

  Submitting a Picture

  • Load photos by clicking on the Add Photos icon from one of three areas.
  1.  The Main Page
  2.  Your "My Page"
  3.  Gallery mode
  • Once you load your photos, immediately edit them for approval or you risk them being deleted.

Editing

  •  Click on the OPTIONS icon on the top right of your picture. You will see a drop down menu. This is where you can edit.
  • Title your picture with a Short Descriptive Caption.
  • Tag your picture with key words people will use to find an item.Use words like jewelry, metal, stone, ruby... etc., People will not use words like pretty or cute, or nice, etc.,. Include makers names like
    Tupperware, Avon, Gucci etc.,
  • If you need to use two word tags it will separate the words alphabetically unless you use quote marks. Use“coffee mug” NOT coffee mug.
  • Add Selling information & live links to the Description Box. There are 3 selling options:
  1. Add live link to the venue it sells from, like RubyLane or Etsy. (Must go to the item itself.)
  2. Add contact info to create a "Classified AD" {click Here for details}
  3. Add live link created from your Pal Pay business account, taking buyers to a checkout page. {click Here for details}

Additional Information

  • You are permitted to use a link with multiple items on the page. BUT. ... it must contain the item in the photo you are submitting. This will only be permitted from members whose venue does not provide them with "single item" pages.
  • You are allowed to have your shop link in addition to the item link. Clearly distinguish between the two by adding it below your description as additional info.
  •  Geographic Location is optional but highly recommended. You can also use the "Map It" feature.
  • You can access your pictures by going to "My Photos". Until they are approved only you & Admin can see them. All approved pictures automatically go to "My Photos", and the Slide Show.
  • You can only load up to 10 pictures a day. This keeps the 100 most recently loaded pictures in the slide slow from being filled by only a few people. EX: It only takes 3 members loading 30 pictures a day to take up 90 of the 100 pictures there.
  • If you want to show a picture of a pet or child etc., you can do that by posting them in your Blog feature, and then select who sees it.
  • If your picture has not been approved, go to "My Photos" and look on the comment wall of the picture to see why. If you need additional help, we will happily work with you until it's right... :)
  • You will have 2 days from the date of submission, to correct the pictures and then, unfortunately, they will be deleted. :( It's better to load one or two pictures and get all the info completed, then to batch load pictures and never add the required info, only to be deleted, it's a waste of your time and ours.:)
  • Pictures go into the slide show by the date they are submitted.
  • Pictures are individually hand approved by Administrators. We are here 7 days a week. If your picture contains the required info, it should take less then 24 hours to be added to the Slide Show. Usually they get approved within a few hours. :) We work one on one with each PM during the editing process and if we have a lot of folks needing help all at once, it might take some extra time so your patience is greatly appreciated. :)

I hope that covers everything!!! If you need help just ask!!!! :)

Hi Everyone... Please note the updated version of the Photo Guide.

This new rule will allow more people to be in that 100 items on the main page. Not many people load 30 pictures all at once but we had a few new PM's  in the same time frame (unusual) and they were the only folks in the slide show just about.... :) Since we are growing we need to tweak things from time to time... so let us know if you have any questions about this new change. :)

Thank you....I really appreciate this...there has been no way I could upload 30 pictures a day on a daily basis...it has actually stopped me from participating in the slideshow because of the folks with the time to do this...I'll now try to submit a picture/item a day again.

Thank you to you and all your staff  (legions, right?) for all your hard work...it has paid off...look how far The Vintage Village has traveled down the road...

Actually this is something Pam pointed out to me. Since I don't list items and Pam lists everyday to make sure she gets seen, it never occurred to me this could be an issue.

Like I say... most folks only load a few at a time for the same reasons you mention but when you get several new PM's all at once and they load all of their 30 pictures at once... well it just wasn't fair to others. :)

It's not a perfect system but if you can load one picture a day or maybe every few days, it really does make an impact on sales. :)

I've found that you that get much more "bang for your buck" by listing/deleting on a regular basis - So once you have you're 30 photos- go in everyday or every other day (this is entirely up to you:)) and delete 5 of your pics/items, then add 5 different pics/items.  If you're a larger site, this is a great way to get exposure to all of your items consistently - additionally it allows some of our smaller site members to be seen.  This is also a good rule of thumb for just about any site, it keeps you in the sites search on a regular basis, as opposed to being seen in a large chunk and then back on page 10:)

This seems very reasonable to me.  I don't know that I've ever uploaded more than 7 in one day.

Thanks for keeping TVV awesome!  :)

Muy excellente!!!!!!
Just curious - last two days I can only use the older format of photo uploader.   ( And actually I discovered I like it even better!)   But wondering if there is a glitch? or perhaps it's the new mozilla doing it??
Not sure.... write me to explain what is happening. :)

Is there a way one can set top 100 photos as a screen saver? This would be so nice to really stay in touch.

I don't know if it can be a screen saver but you can copy the embedded code for the slideshow widget like I did here for the Directory

Here are screen shots

Roll over the bottom of the slideshow and a green tool bar will pop up.

Click on Share

Now you will see the code. Copy it and paste ... :)
