The Vintage Village

Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

In addition to being able to add a live link to another venue like Etsy or RubyLane, and being able to add a Classified AD... you can also opt to sell directly from The Vintage Village by adding a live link to a Pay Pal check out page.

If you sell online you most likely already have a business or premiere account with Pay Pal. If not, signing up is easy.

  • Once you have your Pay Pal business account, go to the tab that says Merchant Services.

  • Go to the icon that says Buy Now Button
  • Once there, you will see three STEPS to complete. This is a partial screen shot so you see you are in the right spot.

  • Once the 3 STEPS are complete hit the CREATE BUTTON icon.
  • You will now see two options for grabbing the code for that button.
  • Choose the EMAIL option (right tab)
  • Copy the code and paste that into the description box of the picture you are using to sell the item you created the button for.
  • When a buyer clicks on the plain text html code you provided, it will take them to Pay Pal where they can securely sign into their account and immediately purchase the item from you.
  • You will be sent a notification from Pay Pal that the item was purchased.
  • After confirming this, return to The Vintage Village and either mark the item temporarily as SOLD in the title or delete it and replace it with another item for sale.
  • Examples of items for sale this way. Item # 1,
  • Here is a screen shot of what the customer will see. There will be a "sign in" area to the right where they can access their PP account to pay for the item. You can add more info then I did, as this is just a simple example... :)

  • Additional pictures of the same item, but with different views can be listed on Flickr or in the comment wall section just below the listing.Example
  • Shop Policies can be posted in a PDF file. Here is an example from My Page

Don't forget... if you want to just make it simple and not have to create a button for each item, list your item like a Classified Ad and tell then to contact you. You can then use the same merchant services center to send them an invoice. :)

If you have lots of items, this can be tedious, but if you want to make it so that there is no lag time and the buyer can purchase the item immediately, then take a few minutes to create the code and you are all done... :)

It's really up to you and how much effort you want to put into it. :) Creating the button or creating an invoice probably take the same amount of time to do. If it were me I would do the button so the customer can buy the item immediately. :)

Carol answered that before somewhere and it is a big no no. Sandy

Yes.... you WOULD Violate your exclusivity agreement ... 100%.

So selling directly from here is not for folks who have this option with them. :)

This would be for folks who don't like all their eggs in one basket and want to expand out in different directions as it increases your presence on the web.

It's like selling a line of designer clothing from an exclusive department store, VS selling it in all the department stores. There's pro's and cons to both. :)

Greetings from snowy Maine!  Do remember that if an item cannot be placed into your RL shop, it's OK to sell it anywhere you choose.  Ruby Plaza shops are not held to the same restrictions either so a mixed lot, which cannot be sold on Ruby Lane, can be sold elsewhere.

Also, could you put an item in a classified with a link back to your Ruby Lane shop?  I'm exclusive to Ruby Lane too but have stuff on websites with a direct link back to the item in my RL shop for purchase.

Best wishes for a profitable 2012,
Betsy

Do remember that Premium Members here on TVV who are exclusive to Ruby Lane can still add their photos to the slide show, with a link back to their Ruby Lane (or Ruby Plaza) shops, and can also use their profile page here to showcase their RL/RP items :-)

If you have a shop online all you would need is the link to the item... :)

Listing here as if it were like Craig's List would be more for things like local pick ups or heavy items or if you have a brick and mortar shop... it just gives you the option to post a picture and simply say... contact me.... and not have to worry about being on any venue etc.,

When we began here, we only allowed links to venues, but as the site grew and more folks signed up we realized that we had to allow folks to sell however they wanted to really... :)

We just want to give you the freedom and the options to be independent if you choose to.

The best method is to belong to a venue and post your items from there. All we are doing is trying to give you options.

And if we get really big someday and get more traffic, selling from TVV could be the best option. :)

Exactly... :) And that is what most folks do.

And I would like to also mention, if you do sell an item directly via TVV... there is no commission fee... you just pay a flat price to list x amount of items.

So if you listed 30 items and they all sold say in a month or two of your premium membership, you could post 30 new items and never have to pay another cent!!!!
