My fondest wish for my shop would be for Ruby Lane to set up an in-house credit card merchant account that would make it possible for shoppers to shop on Ruby Lane with their credit cards without outsourcing it to Paypal... kind of the way it works on Amazon... your card(s) is on file with the site, and all you have to do is choose it at checkout... done. And I know other shop owners who would like this too.

There are a lot of customers who do not like using PayPal and this would settle that problem. I also think that once the info was entered and stored for the customer they would be more apt to pay right away.

Although I can use the Square program to process credit cards, it means I have to contact the customer and take their credit card info over the phone. It can be difficult to connect, and I believe some folks aren't comfortable giving out that information (by phone or email). I know I wouldn't be! Square is best for in-person transactions, where I can swipe their cards.
Permalink Reply by Charmed Life on February 22, 2012 at 6:06pm I think the fee is higher on the "Square" when cards are input manually versus swiping them.
I think that would be an awesome thing, too, Marni!
Permalink Reply by The Old Grey Mare on February 22, 2012 at 6:29pm Marni, I also agree, it would be a fantastic selling tool. I have a merchant account so that I can take credit cards, but it's expensive to maintain when it's sitting idle. And it requires a phone call or email to get the credit card information to me, and as 2Hearts mentions, it's sometimes not something that buyers are comfortable with, or they delay on payment, because it's not as simple as click and pay on PayPal.
Did anyone notice on Ecommercebytes that Etsy is now set up to process credit cards for their sellers? Here's a link, or I hope it is, never sure when the links will work here, no clue what I do wrong.

And also on Etsy, while our shop reports have been limited, Etsy has added them for their shop owners just this month.

Checked the links, they don't work, apparently I am link challenged on TVV, but you can still cut and paste and it will take you to the articles.

Permalink Reply by Graceful Antiques on February 22, 2012 at 9:12pm I love and use Propay for all credit cards. I just have to send out an invoice to the customer. They fill out all the info and I do not have access to it. Of course I can also take their information directly if they prefer.
If it would be cost effective possibly thru RL and safe that would be fine also and in line with government regulations and changes also of course.
Permalink Reply by Marni Bakst on February 22, 2012 at 10:46pm Yes, but Propay has processing limits, like Square, which can be a problem if that's all you use.

Permalink Reply by SelectionsBySusan on February 23, 2012 at 5:46am I am not ready to jump into Etsy's new credit card plan. Too many unanswered questions and bugs to work out.
Permalink Reply by Gardenartus Antiques on February 23, 2012 at 8:00am I just read one of the links Dexter posted and once again there is that wait period before you can receive the money instead of having instant access to it. At the very least the cost for shipping and insurance should be available immediately, IMHO. Sounds almost like PayPal but without the seller protection and instant access to funds?

Permalink Reply by Graceful Antiques on February 23, 2012 at 8:44am Propay processing limits can be increased several different ways.
A transaction can be broke up if needed also. Propay has been around since 1997.

Permalink Reply by SelectionsBySusan on February 23, 2012 at 9:11am I use Propay on Artfire, and I really like their customer service. Very professional. I find that my sales have increased on Artfire because of this. Paypal is often not used for my shop now on Artfire.
Also with Etsy new plan, no shipping service as of yet.
