Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

This morning I awoke and found two emails, sent from Ruby Lane.  Sent at 2.27 and 2.27 AM, the emails informed me that both my shops had been put in preview.  In other words, closed to the public.  I am including the email about Ruby Lane below.  If it weren't so frustrating, it would be funny.  I particularly liked the part about how they wouldn't want me to miss a sale....

And I'm curious, if my email isn't working, which of course it is, how did they expect me to get the email?  Which I did.  Because my email is working.  Because it's the same email I"ve had since I opened the Ruby Lane shop in July 2005.

Following the instructions and going to my home page, I simply clicked on reopen my shop, and got the message that my shop is once again open.  I did nothing whatsoever with my email address.  So, apparently another glitch, instead of possibly finding a purchase order this morning, I get a notice that I'm closed.   As of this point, I am leaving the RP shop in preview, and sending the information on it to CS, so they can explain it to me.  I feel like Ricky Ricardo though--"this is gonna take some pretty serious splaining Lucy...."

Your shop The Old Grey Mare, has been put in preview for this reason:
Closed because email address not working properly. Customers
are no longer able to view your shop and we'd hate to see you lose a
sale. To re-open your shop, follow the instructions on your shops home
page.

It seems when things are really working good, someone gets a brainstorm and comes up with........ well ya'll know what I mean. It happens so much at my job. It gets so frustrating that they keep changing a good thing and poof it is now not a good thing anymore.

I always had a problem with google analytics, never could understand them, still don't. I am learning new things everyday, so I needs be to learn this and  Conquer this thing.

I do appreciate RP & RL trying to make things better for us, but this is poor timing. The sites are still slow, haven't added anything new yet since this happened as I don't have the time to re-list, redo photos etc.

I guess patience is really a true virtue and very hard to keep  :( All I can say is hang in there and it will get better, as they are losing money also!

The reports we have received about slow speeds since Monday have been browser related.  Check to make sure you have the current  version of your browser. Firefox recently updated their browser. The latest version of Firefox is 8. I don't run on IE so can't tell you the current version for it. If you are running on the current version of your browser and you are getting slow speeds, then you really need to report it to CS.

Wow Dexter you've been through the mill lately. Did you go Oh Crap, %(*&ed too much this time! LOL I would have har. :)

Dena, it's actually become kind of a joke at this point around here.  Thank Heaven I have other options, the private sales, the repeat clients, the horse and dog crowd with the holidays coming up....And it looks like maybe I'll be doing  a few unplanned antique shows before the end of the year.  You know, you're in the business, you do what you have to do.  I love my Ruby Lane shop, but happily, it's not the only thing I have going, so I'll live.  Sending a big hug to you girl, I may be up in your neck of the woods next May, will let you know.  xoxoxoxo

9 days and counting? Aside from the fact that this migration to Cloud was exceptionally ill-timed, it seems pretty obvious at this point that it was too complex a project for RL tech to tackle alone. Anyone working these new technologies knows the importance of redundancy, and not switching over to a new platform without running in conjunction with the old platform, in order to work out bugs beforehand. Stating that RL is up and running now, with only a few “hiccups” (a rather lighthearted and inappropriate word choice, when people’s incomes are seriously being impinged upon), is a bit of an insult to shop owners trying to carry on business as best they can amid continuing and unrelenting problems. Along with apparently still existing photo upload issues, there are also HTTP issues, search issues, the inability for many customers to be able to get on to the site and navigate (let alone shop and purchase items), and no daily reports of  Pageviews, Item Counts, or Clicks—info vital to managing shop inventory that we have not had available for several days now. Customer Support is not helpful when all you get are platitudes. Many of us earn our sole incomes from our shops, and sales have been very significantly cut back. According to my Google Analytics, since this entire fiasco began, my business has dropped 67% (I am a Gold shop)!!!! There have been no updates since Monday morning, when RL apprised shop owners that the tech staff would now be working to resolve the Reports issues—which is still not working. When I attempted to add a listing last nite (Wednesday, 11/9),  it took 25 minutes to get it uploaded properly! Not all the photos loaded the first time around (I do not use FTP). Each action was painfully slow in responding, and the site speed overall seemed to be getting down to a crawl. Meanwhile, promised email updates have been non-existent, outside of the initial one. It was mentioned at one point that there would be a message on RL homepage giving customers a heads-up as to the technical difficulties, but as far as I can tell this was never done. Potential customers who are having problems are left in the dark, perhaps never to be seen again. Meanwhile, shop owners continue adding new items (and I am one of them), in hopes that customers will find these items and maybe make a purchase. When in actuality, all this is doing is basically just lining RL’s pockets. After all, RL takes no commissions, so sales are really not that important to its business (you can always blame the economy for lack of sales!). I find it interesting that RL has assigned a CS member to specifically handle funding issues. It’s good to know there are priorities in place (hah!). Along those same lines, it would be nice to hear what that promised compensation for shop owners will entail, while holiday sales opportunities dwindle by the day. The silence regarding this and the general status of the RL site performance are simply deafening.

P.S. The slow speeds I am experiencing with the RL site are NOT browser related (why can’t RL just own the blame??). I have latest browser version and everything else I navigate to pops up very fast.

Interesting factotum, regarding new item listings and sales mentioned in my previous comments:

As of 5:00 am this morning (11/10), there were 516 listings in Today’s Arrivals in Antique & Vintage Jewelry (the lane I use most often for my shop). There were 16 sales. Does it look like there may be a problem here?

Hope all is better for you Dexter OP.

I am on Safari Mac and am not having any issues. Speed is very fast for me on RL and RP and I am getting sales.

Hi, I also have zero views for  my items for the last week and the click rates are missing for several days.  Karen

Gracious, what a way to start the day!  I've noticed the site is working faster but have come across glitches.  This morning I noticed my click rate and monthly budget on RP had changed to zero.  So if you don't check it each day it may be worth checking.  Also it took a couple of times for it engage.  For instance it showed the pending rate to be zero and the current rate to be 10 cents which is just the opposite of what I put in (hope this makes sense).  Once I tried it again it corrected itself.  Also, all of my new listings have had zero views on RL.  Granted it is pottery of a single pattern so maybe not much interest in that particular pattern but I don't think I've experienced not a single view before.  It's good to see that people are getting sales....keeping my fingers crossed :-)

There is a message in a red box on stats page in maintenance.

-------------Note: Due to the recent server upgrades, if you see empty entries for an entire day, it means the data has not been processed yet for that day.

Carol has addressed this here also on another thread.

The views being 0 have nothing to do with the traffic at this point.

You are a busy lady and have a great attitude Dexter. Oh I am tickled to know you'll be up here! Will you be staying with Beth? This is such nice news. I hope you will be able to make it and I'll be so glad to meet you in person!
