The Vintage Village

Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

Saw this in today's Ecommercebytes/ Auctionbytes newletter

I am barely keeping up on facebook, but if I am reading this correctly, being on Google's social network is going to be essential to good search placement?

I know there is already discussion about Google + on the Social Networking group here at TVV, but thought maybe RL sellers who are already there may want to educate those of us who are not yet....

So wish I lived in a little apartment above my shop in a quaint village known for its antiques & collectibles ...that really would make me sooooo happy :) lol I am just getting too old for all this change in online marketing! but I realize I have to stay in tune  with the cybertimes!

Interesting...I do notice that when I'm on google+ my processor ( never have a problem)  whines and hisses and moans and groans...go figure...

Same here and my computer runs so slow that I'm ready to pull my hair out.  Loading pages is a nightmare.  So is posting to Google+.  I'm done with it already and I don't think I will be the only one who doesn't like Google+.

Yes, I read the google blog with this announcement. I spend more time with Google+ than facebook. It has been smoother, cleaner, and not so glitchy as facebook has been for me too.

Like anything else....including here:) Being active is good, helps with searches. The more activity that is seen...makes searches pay attention when it comes up. It is like being here, and with social networking...the more activity, the more involvement, the better it can be for you and for the site you are with too.

I have problems with FB being glitchy for me, and many many times slow for me. Sometimes there is enough glitch at FB I have to sign out, and just leave it for a while. With google+ I have had no issues of it being slow, showing links, commenting in there, and etc.

Good Luck everyone:)

I am still trying to crack the code of getting on pinterest. They do not like me I guess. Cobayley even invited me but I can sign up but not push the button to join. It is snowed over for lack of better word.

My extremely geek nephew says Google plus is much safer than FB so will try if I get a moment to breath.

Silly me, I just thought we had to know antiques when I came on the internet in 2002 as a dealer. Next month is 10 years. I am tired.

Hi folks,

I am just getting my feet wet with Google+ and I am with you Graceful - my eyes are glazed over. I have been looking for RL Shops over there and it is hard to find folks. I have some but because I don't know the name of every single Ruby Lane shop or RL shop on TVV or shop owners full name it makes it difficult.

And, Lora, how does one Facebook, Tweet or Google+ items for sale in their shop from here? Do folks have to be premium members or do they add it to their TVV page registration or streams or ?

I finally figured out how to re-google+ folks item posts from our stream to our profile page but can't figure out if you can allow followers to post to your Profile Page - don't see a setting for that. Meaning I would like Google+'ers to post to our page so I don't have to hunt for them in the stream and then share but I can't let everyone post their or we will have some weird stuff on our Page.

Are we there yet?

Carol

I will not use Google+ after looking into it. I am on pinterest.

I agree...I am avoiding Google+  and this article that Lora posted in Social Networking Group indicates that most other people are too.........

When you view any open group or any thread in the forums or any picture in the slide show/photo gallery, there are icons where all you have to do is click and bam you have tweeted and shared and liked to those places via your accounts with them. That is how I promote the site on a daily basis.

Here is a screen shot of a thread with the icons on the bottom left corner. If you hit the Share icon that will open a box to about 100 other places to promote on like Tumblr etc.,

Hi,

I am in the process of developing RL's Google+ pages. My eyes have glazed over and brain is in a fog. Google does appear to have the upper hand in all of this with respect to placement in search results of a Google+ PAGE not your Profile page. But, the truth is they really did all along. For example, the  content in your shop must be relevant: about me, shop info, item titles and descriptions, etc. and have good reciprocal links (unless you are paying Google for placement) in order to climb in a search result for keywords and keyword phrases relevant to what you sell .  From what I gather Google+ PAGE works much the same way. The more active your PAGE (not your Profile), the more posts and links to your Page, the better chance you have in climbing in a Search return on Google. If you create a Page for your business, you can control who can post on it. If you only want your own posts to appear on your business page, then set your settings accordingly. So if you are a seller of vintage items you post your items for sale on your Page. (Google+ is similar to Facebook in that you can have a Personal Profile page and then add a Page with a different name (biz name) to your Profile page. It is the Business page that will supposedly count at some point in time. (I only started developing the Biz page yesterday, up until then I was using the Profile page to promote Ruby Lane, so now I have to convert all our circles to Ruby Lane Page follows... eeegad's.)

Only time will tell if Google+ ends up to be a good thing or not for a business. For us building a page is worth some effort should it hold true that Google+ users will get a higher ranking in a search result.

You have to view it as one more way to promote your wares. If it is worth your time to do so, no one knows at this point.
