Permalink Reply by Suzy's Timeless Treasures on May 8, 2012 at 4:21pm Just read your blog, Sandy, wonderful topic! I've shared it on my shop's Facebook page.

Permalink Reply by Graceful Antiques on May 8, 2012 at 5:46pm Thank you both. After writing this I have been thinking about what young people could collect for a nominal starting price collectible or not....For special birthdays and such possibly a higher priced category. (Special dolls etc.)
Help me add to the list.
1. Pez of course.
2. Perfume bottles.
3. Postcards like I did.
4. Salt and pepper shakers.
5. Hot Wheel cars. Dinky Cars.
6. Sports memorabilia.
My husband and I both collected stamps when we were kids. Vinyl records are back in vogue now and I think kids would enjoy collecting them if they like music. Old records are mostly very inexpensive.

Congrats!

Permalink Reply by San Marcos Art Glass on May 8, 2012 at 11:15pm Great blog. Had to share. So much is being spent now on intangibles, e.g. itunes. The tunes bring fleeting enjoyment, but nothing is nicer than something you can hold and keep.

Permalink Reply by Suzy's Timeless Treasures on May 9, 2012 at 9:45am Good point, Anita, everything is virtual and digital now.
My daughter collects coin purses, she especially likes the ones with the metal twist clasps. She has 1960s beaded purses, mesh purses, evening bags (that several of my friends have borrowed from her for special occassions!), novelty coin purses, over 200 and counting and she's only 13.
She also has a collection of snow globes, trying to get one from every state, the mini ones.

Permalink Reply by Fortune Gallery of Vintage on May 9, 2012 at 10:24am Very good article, Sandy! It makes me want to write something about my assorted experiences with collectors. I have found that if you can name something, there will be someone who collects it. LOL
Permalink Reply by Antik Avenue on May 30, 2012 at 8:13am Very nice article and thought provoking for parents and relatives of young children. Hmmm, I wonder what my niece would want to collect when she's older. The possibilities are endless.....

Permalink Reply by Graceful Antiques on May 30, 2012 at 10:44am A granddaughter collects tiny perfume bottles loosely. I recently ran across a display box of them. For a nice price when out and about looking for treasures. Very cute bottles but it also had an Evening in Paris flacon so a win/win for me as well.
Saw a really sweet coin purse on RL Suzy yesterday. Reasonably priced I think.
