I just attempted to update my home page on Ruby Lane, only to add some additional text, and got a red warning of something amiss. It seems we can no longer have the hours we are available for phone calls next to our telephone number. So, bottom line, Ruby Lane would not accept my text that I wanted to add, so I guess I am unable to change my home page at all any more, or I risk losing the hours of availability.
I feel it is important for those attempting to call us to know the hours that we accept calls, but apparently Ruby Lane has other ideas.
Why they changed this, I can't even begin to understand.

Permalink Reply by Pearl's Parlor on February 10, 2012 at 2:51pm I noticed this also today. I was trying to change something and received the red flash that something doesn't look right. Next to my phone number I had "please use email" but couldn't leave the page until I deleted the statement. It seems like they only want the 10 digit telephone number there now, no text? Why I have no idea.

Permalink Reply by The Old Grey Mare on February 10, 2012 at 8:19pm I just checked my shop page and it still has the hours listed. So I went to edit page, and under phone it has the number and the hours. I didn't change anything at all, but when I clicked on update page, I got the error message about the phone number. So instead of updating, I closed the page out. Also, oddly enough, under shop graphic, I have the little photographer man, although my logo is showing up fine on my main page. Strange, wonder why it has to change?

Permalink Reply by Pearl's Parlor on February 10, 2012 at 8:34pm I also have the photographer man under my shop logo when I go into "edit shop info." I noticed that a week or so ago when I was changing something, but just noticed the phone number problem today. It is strange.

This is ONLY on the "edit shop info" page - the shop info itself works fine, but you can't update it if you have a "please use email" in your phone number.
Can somebody please fix this? Dexter Grass and I can't be the only sellers who prefer to be contacted by email rather than by phone. If they're going to restrict the phone number field to a phone number format, then please give a "preferred contact method" or something.

Permalink Reply by CheriShops - Admin on February 11, 2012 at 6:55pm Remember this is not an "official" Ruby Lane board so asking them to fix it here may not get response. Carol posts here as a member, and tries to help us with all she can..... but she is in the Marketing department, not Tech or CS, so she always reminds us that we do have to submit a report to Customer Service via the HELP email section in order to have it logged
Seems to me that they are saying that field is only for a phone number. There is already an email link for customers to use. I add the hours for calling to my shop text and in the non searchable section on my listings

Permalink Reply by Graceful Antiques on February 11, 2012 at 7:35pm Even though I only have it once in my maintenance on my home page the contact info shows it double.
I had a live chat the other day discussing the problem, so, hopefully, my concern has been directed to those who felt this change necessary. I encourage others to email or contact them, as well. What could possibly be the harm in having text next to the phone number, or instead of the phone number, as long as it applies to "contact".
Placing the hours you can be reached by telephone will not have the same impact if placed elsewhere on the site. When someone is going to call a shop owner, they will look for and find the telephone number on the home page, pick up their phone and call. They are "not" going to search through the shop owner's pages to see if they mention specific hours that they are available.
As I said before, this does not make sense to me.

Permalink Reply by Suzy's Timeless Treasures on February 11, 2012 at 7:47pm Yep, same thing happened to me this week when I updated something else in my shop info. I had to remove the 'Email preferred' note next to my phone number.
I am going to email Ruby Lane and request a space to add this info or hours as some of you mentioned. Weird that it was just changed with no notice.

I have that problem constantly. I think this site has some type of lag time. I will receive an email notification that someone has posted to a thread and when I visit the thread there is no post, and sometimes I will post a comment and later notice that there was another comment before mine, that was not there when I posted and only shows up later.
I've never understood why I get an email and pop over and see no new post (until later).

Permalink Reply by Jan Story on February 11, 2012 at 8:10pm Thank you, Suzy. A "preferred contact method" would be a really nice thing to have! While I understand RL's reasons for requiring a phone number, those of us who sell from our homes often have reasons for not wanting strangers telephoning us!
