Good Morning -
I have been wandering around Pinterest and am confused to say the least -
Can it be used as a marketing tool? Does one create a theme board with things they find on the internet and slip some of the items they are selling onto that board? -
And then - once a board is created how is it seen by others than your followers and perhaps other Pinterest users who happen on it?
Are you using it as a marketing tool? and if so, how?
Thanks to Carolyn for inviting me into this very overwhelming world.
Well, if anyone repins your item it will be seen by their followers - which can include whole other sets of eyeballs that might not ordinarily "shop for" vintage items. And if you put a price in the "comment" when you pin something, the price will show up in a little banner across the upper left corner and the item will appear in the "gifts" section.
There's all kinds of ways to do it. I've seen pinners who create separate boards for the items they're selling -some all mixed together and some for every place they sell or every category of item they sell. I've seen pinners who do theme boards and mix their items with others. I've seen pinners who group items by color or other theme. Seems like everybody is experimenting.
What I haven't seen yet is items on my boards flying out the door. But it's new yet.
Thanks Marie for asking the exact same questions that I had about Pinterest. Also thanks to Jan for addressing the questions so well.
I most definitely understand the site more now. (well okay I knew nothing before). I've benefited from this discussion, so things are working as they should.
By tag prices on items, do you mean in the comments section?
I just started using it today. It IS interesting to see your items repinned, and to look at other sites. For my own items to post, it was mostly vintage jewelry of course, but it was a nubby scarf in my Ruby Plaza shop that got repinned the most! I would like to follow others on Ruby Lane, so will try to do that as I see your names come up here. Is there an easy way to find you on Pinterest?

It is really exponential growth. Since we can tag prices on items, they are picked by pinterest's shopping filters. I've looked @ google analytics and found traffic coming from Pinterest.
It's like all the other social networking tools... you have to work it every day and build a following. Then you have to use it every day to maintain that level and continue moving forward.
Tried typing "vintage shopping heaven" into Pinterest - your board didn't show. Can you provide link when you are home and comfy by your computer? I'm trying to figure out who to follow, and not having much luck figuring that out. But... it is only Day 1.

When I pin something from rl I highlight the title of the item, I click the pinit button on my toolbar (not the one on the rl page …it doesn't work the same). The description shows up automatically in the comments. I then type a $ sign and the price. Pinterest shows the price in a banner on the upper left corner. Items pinned with a price go into the Pinterest product/gift/shopping feed.
I have a board called "vintage shopping heaven" that links to all my friends who have shops.
I belong to the got vintage groups on facebook and when I post items there I try to pin an item or two from those sellers … sounds like a lot of work but it literally takes seconds. (And I've found some awesome things to buy for me! )
I am on my phone, sorry for any typos. I would write more but this is a pain typing on…
Me too - need to find people to follow ---
I am seeing lots of traffic from pinterest. Trying to find other Ruby Lane dealers and Holly Lane but cannot find you.
Graceful Shops on Pinterest under People.
I am Holly Lane Antiques on Pinterest
Thanks. I actually found you by putting Holly Lane Antiques Pinterest on Google main search so I think it is good for us to be on Pinterest for exposure and traffic.
A couple of questions ???
Can you move your pins around once they are on a board?
Is there a way to Twitter a board automatically or is it just to copy and paste the link?
