I have never been comfortable with the reporting sales and removing listings. For example, with a purchase order I will "Finalize the Sale" after two weeks have elapsed. I then indicate I want it to stay in my shop for 2 months. Sometime within those 2 months I may wish to remove the listing. So I go to "Remove" and it wants me to choose "Sold It" or "Did not sell it -Just Remove Item."
My confusion is when I have clicked "Sold it-Via Ruby Lane" the item appears twice in my Sold sheet.
When there is no purchase order this is not a problem. I must be doing something wrong.

if it is already a sale that was finalized, then when you remove it you choose the Did not Sell it-just remove item option *if* you are removing it sooner than the time period you set up when you finalized.....
that is the only way I know how not to duplicate the sale. I learned that the hard way when I first opened some years back and also chose the "sold it" again
When you finalize, it is logged in your sales...so the just remove option later does not change that
HTH :)

Permalink Reply by Pearl's Parlor on April 5, 2012 at 10:36pm I agree that the Remove Item screen is confusing. It looks too much like the screen to Finalize Purchase Order. Sometimes it will let you just click to Remove Item, but other times it wants another block checked. After messing one up and reporting it again, I decided that when I finalize the order and show them sold, I'd set a one or two month time frame and let them drop off by themselves. Seems easier for me.
Permalink Reply by Antiques on Canaan St on April 6, 2012 at 11:53am Pearl- I usually select two months but sometimes I feel the need to remove something. Better get my "feelings" under control! I am relieved that I am not alone in finding it a problem.

Permalink Reply by Granny Wickers on April 10, 2012 at 9:38pm Does anyone leave an item up after it is sold to continue to draw traffic to your store. I had a book on my site that I sold, and I do not want to get rid of it at all out of my sold items as it seems to draw a lot of search traffic in and they sometimes look at other items I have. What do you folks think about this?
Thanks

Permalink Reply by Antiques on Canaan St on April 10, 2012 at 10:09pm Mark- I don't see why not. There are some things I leave up more than 2 months because it shows the interest others have in particular items. But I do get concerned with too much of that when I know I have regular customers checking me out. Not sure if it leaves a bad impression after awhile. What do you think?
Permalink Reply by Ruby Lane on April 11, 2012 at 10:47am Hi,
I think leaving up a sold item is a good idea for some of the reasons already stated. I always have. The item is indexed and out on the internet and will draw traffic to your shop so you might as well make use of it. Think of it as advertising. I also believe the customers like to see what you have sold. It gives them an indication of what items you have offered in the past and may do so again in the future. Keeping sold listings tells shoppers you are a busy little shop and lots of people have purchased from you in the past. It gives them a certain level of confidence about making a purchase from your shop. I have left things listed for years. I tend to pick those things that are unique, get lots of hits from search results, or will have a certain appeal to a particular group of collectors or artisans. I think of it as a gallery of sorts. So, my vote is for leaving sold listings in your shop and how ever many your budget will allow. I do consider it an advertising expense and look at it from that perspective when deciding on how many sold listings to leave up.
