The Vintage Village

Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!

Some shop owners and other folks who post to our Facebook pages are experiencing an issue where they post a link or attach a link, but when they share the link/photo it doesn't show up, although it does initially. If you post using the 'link' button, then the title and description also do not appear. If you post in the comment section, then the link appears and nothing else. And, in some cases, a post doesn't appear at all. (Actually, it does, but you can't see it, instead it ends up in the 'hidden' section for the page (only we can see), but even on that page your link photo, etc., does not show. )

I have been working on this all week, and unfortunately, I have no answer.  I, as a shop owner/me, have no problem, my posts show up, but one of our staff members is experiencing the same exact problem as the rest.

Having tested everything that I can on my end, I have reported the issue to Facebook. I hope I hear something back. If I find out anything I will let you know. That is the best I can do at this time.

Check your settings and make sure your posts are 'public'. Although, I don't believe this is the problem, but best to check, just in case.

I have been having this problem for several days and have changed nothing since previously when all worked perfectly.

Hope you can fix it!

So now - I have been just posting pictures with no links

Marie

I suddenly experienced this problem yesterday...never had it before. Tried with both my personal ID as well as my biz page

however, when I switched from FireFox to Google Chrome...I was able to post???

Not sure if that was just a "fluke"  and have not tried yet today

Hmmm....I thought it was just me!   I normally use Firefox and for the last several days, maybe more, only my link shows up, not the picture on FB for RL and RP.    So I have stopped posting for now.   How strange!

It is all due to the "change" they made a few days back. Everyone should also check their privacy settings. Every time they decide to make it all better the system defaults back to the original settings.

I have discovered if we put our links on the Vintage Village they do show the items.

I have come up with a work around.

It requires more input from you.

Save the item you wish to featuring on our FB page to your computer (unless you have it already.)

Go to our FB 'page'.

Click on the PHOTO tab. (not link and don't type in the 'box')

Upload photo.

In the the 'say something about this' section. Input the info you wish to share, ie url of item, title ... partial desc.. whatever you want, then post.

Or,

Post like you normally would t our Facebook page. If the post does not include the pic, etc.... no prob.

Go to the comment section under your post. Click on comment. Add the link to the item here. Post.

The photo, etc. will show-up but folks will have to expand the comment.

I personally like option 1 the best.

That is the best I can do for now.

This at least allows you to post an item, link and photo to our page.

nope not working!

tried with FF and with Chrome

today it will not even allow a photo alone or a link or  even a comment......nuthin'  ):

I do hope that fb fixes this as I wanna promote some neat new stuff!!

Carol, I have been having the same trouble. The only way I could find to get around it was to post a photo of what I'm selling, then put the link in the comment. I don't know why it is doing this. I see some people are posting links with no problems. RL FB is the only site I'm having this problem with. I wondered if it had something to do with banning outside links on the page.

Hi!

We haven't banned outside links. I don't even how to do that. But, some people are having no problem posting links and others are. All I can think of is it has something to do the individuals settings... but .... I can't pinpoint that problem either. I can post links to FB as Carol no problem, but another staff member can't. We have compared our settings and made sure they matched, still no luck. He is now doing what I recommended about. Only thing I know that works. :(

Carol

Cheri, Did you try to do it the way I recommended?

I looked at http://www.jamestnoble.com/facebook-hidden-posts/ about hidden posts on FB after checking my settings to see if anything should cause problems. I played around with my settings a little, but still couldn't post links on RL's page. I wonder if some of us are being blocked as spam for some reason. I am probably the least spammy person I know, but who knows what the FB selection criterion is. FB will let me post links on my own business page -- at least I'm not being blocked there.

I am posting fine to other facebook pages that allow promotions, fb groups, and my own biz page. Only RL/RP pages giving me problems, and then not always, so the problem is erratic.

My settings are all correct.

and yes, Carol, I tried it the way you suggested....in fact, looking at the RL Photos page I see THREE of my Bagley green glass set photos representing the 3 times I tried...finally got it to post with Chrome. However, yesterday even Chrome would not work?

Dear Carol, in case this helps at all... I was having the photo issue today when trying to post to RL facebook page. I then tried it on my own business page and had the same issue.

I was trying to post the "new this week" link from my shop and the image wouldn't show up however when I switched to posting the "new today" link it worked just fine.

I don't know what the difference might be between the two links that makes one work and the other not but i thought knowing it might help at least a little.

grrrrr and double grrrrr

posting fine to my own biz page and other fb pages where i promote, but tonight my photo is not even uploading to the RL fb page, and the link just posts as rubylane.com yet once again, my photo is showing in RL photo album...not link

this is getting to be soooooo frustrating, especially as it seems so erratic and lets some of us post just fine????

Any news back from fb on why this is happening?
