Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

I just noticed this morning that the prices are once again listed on Sale Pending items.  Personally, I'm happy to see it!

Since I've been on Ruby Lane (2005) the sale pending price has always reflected the asking price, it doesn't change until the sale is finalized.  So it looks like it's 100% back to the way it was.

Oh joy!  I'm so glad they made this change - not being able to see the price on Sale Pending items was so frustrating!

The sale Pending price shown always shows the original listed price Colin. It is not till the item is marked SOLD that the actual offer price displays

Anyone who has accepted an offer and then would cancel the sale because someone else offered them more should be ashamed of themselves IMHO, and not in keeping with the RL standards set for shopkeepers!

I don't think they would last long on Ruby Lane at all if they did this.

I don't think they would last long anywhere. Neither the person who originally bought the item or the one that upped the price would have any respect for such shoddy practices.

Say "we" have accpeted a customers offer and the item is shown with the pirce as sale pending, then what is stopping an other customer coming to us with a higher offer, thus "stealing" the item from the first and so on.

The shop owner is obligated to honor the original purchase order. If a shop owner engages in such behavior and is reported to Ruby Lane we will intervene on behalf of the buyer and take appropriate action.  We would like to think our Shop Owners are above this type of behavior but unfortunately there are always a few who will engage in unscrupulous practices.

I had another shop owner do this to me. I bought a dresser set from them at dealers discount and then another customer came in asking about it After I put the order through and she was "torn" on what to do. The customer of course would be paying her full asking price but that was not right and I let her know this. I was shocked she would even consider doing that.  Totally unprofessional and not something I had ever encountered before that or since at Ruby Lane.

I have never really enjoyed that set because of this either. As a matter of fact I have been cleaning it up and am going to sell it at Ruby Lane. I had bought it for myself, I have a passion for dresser sets, but this left me with such a bad feeling that I just have not been able to find the joy I usually do when I purchase such a set.

No, if you block someone they are not blocked from all shops on RL

However, there is a recent thread running on the default setting for blocked customers that is worth reading

IMHO one should be very careful before blocking customers. I have only ever blocked one, and that was when she tried to pull a scam.  I was shocked to discover the RL default was set so low as it does seem to me that some people block way too quickly, eg for non payment, without first trying to at least phone...I have discovered time and again that there may be an extenuating circumstance and that it is always worth going the extra mile to keep a  happy customer!

To answer your question about blocked buyers. Read through this thread for an explanation of how the Block Buyer tool works. http://thevintagevillage.com/group/rubylane/forum/topics/are-you-lo...

The short answer is No. Just because you block a buyer from your shop does not mean the buyer is blocked from all RL shops.

With respect to the 'raise' the price on the wish list. This is just not good business sense IMO. If I put something on my wish list and a shop owner raises the price it will not prompt me to rush over and buy the item. If anything "I" would probably remove it from my list.

I also agree shop owners should 'spread the love'. But some are so afraid if they help others they will hurt their own sales when in all likelihood the shopper would be pleased and return to their shop again as a result.

We can't control nor do we wish to dictate what price a shop owner should charge for an item. Shop owners are free to charge what they want for an item and change the price whenever they chose and to whatever price they chose. As a 'shopper' I notice if an a shop raises the price on an item I have been watching for awhile (on or off my wish list).

Thankfully, this has only happened to me on two occasions, where a customer will email me offering a higher price by suggesting that they wished they had purchased it or did not realise that they had missed the item. On both of these times, I clearly stated to them that only if the purchaser no longer wished to make the purchase, that I would get back to them to inform them the item had been relisted. One of the customers in question, has tried this on with me three times! I have therefore blocked them from my shop.

I am not here to name or to shame, but I have also noticed several owners for example, who will raise their prices for an item if there are customers who are watching the item, obviously to induce a potential sale from one of them perhaps. I think that this practice should also be stopped or at the very least discouraged.

Some owners seem to forget that any actions can have a knock-on effect to all and that once any customer has suffered for any reason, then they may never visit ANY shop again. We should all be in "Healthy" competition and help each other, rather than be against one an other for own selfish greed.   Ruby Lane offers the ideal opportunity for all to be as a community and a collective, rather than at battle with one an other for the sakes of one's own good. This is my view and if ever I receive an enquiry for something that I do not have, then I will always steer them towards another shop. Even small things such as this, instil customer coinfidence that Ruby Lane offers the best shopping facilities for all of us, no matter what we sell, or where we are, here on line. BIG or SMALL!

I actually wish we had a capability to send them to another RL shop if we do not have an item our customer is looking for. I was on a mall for years that did that.

We sell mostly unique items so if they are in your shop perhaps they will meander over to mine.

I just sold a medium Takahashi orange canister and someone is looking high and low for the large one. So...

We can do that. If someone asks me about something I don't have, I put a search in for the item on RL. If the price is reasonable, I send the link to the potential customer. The only thing that stops me from doing this is if I know the item is overpriced. I would be embarrassed to refer a customer to an overpriced item.

I need to look at stores in my network to learn what they have. I would rather refer to someone in my own network. I see no problem with referring people if it is something I cannot provide for a customer. And maybe there will be a quid pro quao relationship formed.

The buyers' wish lists have items that customers are looking for. I haven't found them to be very helpful, mainly because they are not looking for what I sell. Also sometimes the descriptions are too vague or broad. The general RL wish lists are shown for each lane at the bottom of the wish list link on the shop owner's page.

It would also be a very good idea to have an "ITEMS WANTED" page (please advise me if one already exists!!!) which would allow shop owners to brouse and view, not only for their own wants but to see if they have anything that is wanted by another shop owner, so that they may pass on the details to their customer, directly to that shop!
