Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

Slow sales on Ruby Lane, Ruby Plaza and any other form of on line selling

Please note....this is not a criticism of any online selling venue.  I'm participating on several although I'm an exclusive shop on Ruby Lane.

I DO NOT think that all the nickel and dime linking to facebook is an adequate means of selling or promoting your page.  I think that whatever happened with google and whatever search engines has drastically cut the traffic to my store.

Today, I almost had MORE TRAFFIC TO MY RUBY PLAZA shop than to my Ruby Lane shop.  I think I've sold 1 item from my RP shop in the last month.

My traffic via the Ruby Lane traffic reports or whatever you want to call it was 3 times higher a year ago than it is now.

I have not changed what I list, the way I list it (well, maybe I've taken a few hints from Carol Augustine), but if this is the way business is to continue...I cannot do business here.  I NEED to sell things...

Thank you...that was a bit of a vent, but it needed to be vented...I'm so damned afraid of Ruby Lane giving me a bad check mark for voicing my opinions  that I decided to put it right out there....give me a "bad" mark if you will, but I need sales...I have lots of really great stuff, I need to sell it...

My understanding is the higher your page rank the higher up you show in  Google searches.

Thank you!!  what a nice compliment.  Well, I'm not ready to throw in the towel quite yet.  I'll keep plugging along.  I don't understand the page rank.  Lora has posted a link somewhere here on the site to check your ranking.  She mentions it earlier in this thread.  You can put the URL of your shop or your website and check your ranking.  The higher the number, the better you show up in the google search (theoretically)....It's a mystery to me and I love when we all get together like this to talk it out.  I always learn something..

You can find your page rank here by putting in your web address:

Hi everyone...

I just did the page rank check.... my shop on Ruby Lane is   0/10      Shop on Ruby Plaza N/A

Then I googled some of my  items, some new listings and some older ones, they all showed up for me, most on page 1.  I even mixed up the wording so it was not an exact copy of my item title.

So, if I don't have a ranking why are my items listing in Google on the first page... this is so confusing.   Is it really that important to have a ranking at all.

I have also noticed that some days I also have more visitors on Ruby Plaza than Ruby Lane,  both shops have had a few sales so far  this month  5 Ruby Lane & 7 Ruby Plaza.... not fantastic, but at least they are sales.

Hopefully it will pick up.... hang in there Carolyn, your shop is amazing !!!!!

Hi Anne... I know it is all so confusing.  I don't understand it at all.

What I do understand that is this the slowest month I've had since the first year we were open on RL.  I've had 2 telephone sales that have helped, but wow...

I still get some "make offers" that I never see, because they are asking for 25% off or more.  Sometimes, my reports show I have 15 or more "make offers".

I've compared my pricing with other shops and venues and I know I'm not overpriced.  I will hang in there.  Now that the house is sold, my time is going to be really stretched.  Like I mentioned earlier, thank goodness for the few groups on facebook that encourage linking to the shop.  I think that has helped with new visitors.

If you read back in this thread, Lora reported that traffic to TVV is also much lower.  Google is certainly tinkering.  Perhaps they want us to buy into the search, like search clicks....
