I try to not be obsessed about wish lists as I have a few myself but I have a ?
I sometimes move items from RL to my RP like Seasonal items etc.
Some of my items are very popular on the wish lists. Some of those items possibly I decide to move to somewhere else or off of my shops entirely. So my ? is about etiquette.
1. Is it okay to say in the box that this item will be moving soon to my RP shop or to my RL shop on the RP box?
2. Would it be okay to actually say in the box this item will be removed off of my sites soon (time period) possibly and/or contact me as it may still be available and I can add it back?
I ask that as this coming year I will hopefully moving if all lines up and at different times parts of the inventory will be available and some not? I do know I can add things to the back room at RP but with so many items it can get confusing at times.
--------------
I always feel uncomfortable not knowing what to say in the wish list box period. Hi, I consider reasonable offers?
I see you peeking? I also feel bad if I am checking out something on other shops so do not do it very often. I just try to remember. Sandy
Permalink Reply by Ruby Lane on March 5, 2012 at 2:53pm Hi folks,
I have been 'shopping' around for a few items and adding items to my wish lists. I am looking to buy something so I am creating a list of possibilities for review later. I have to say that I feel neglected if a shop owner doesn't put a note for my 'wished' list item. I like this note - "mention Wish List and you will receive X discount" .. or something along those lines. Or, anything that at least lets me know this shop owner is actually interested in getting my business. It doesn't have to be a discount note. Watching my own Wish Lists made me rethink how I handle my shops wishlists.
You never know when something will sell, but I do feel it is a good idea to keep 'cost' in mind. If I have a $10 item and I leave it in for two years, then maintenance costs add up, and at some point it cost me more to keep it listed than I will get should it sell. If a $10 item is getting a lot of click thru's then I would consider keeping it around even though it is not selling. Another doorway.
I also think more shop owners should take advantage of the Lane and Site Wish Lists. It only takes a couple of minutes to add a comment and it is one more door for people to walk thru. I personally would be over there putting 'remarks' next to any search related to the items I sell.

Would you please explain the "lane and site" wish lists you mentioned. What do you do to take advantage of it? Thanks for the comments it does make me ponder my decision to not post anything.
Permalink Reply by Ruby Lane on March 5, 2012 at 5:19pm Hi Carol,
Go to your Shop Owners Page - Buyers Wish Lists - Click on Lane Searches or Site Searches (or your own wishlists). You will see a list of saved searches by Lane and Site. Right now there are 5,468 Site Searches on Wish Lists, 32 New. There are 589 Antique & Vintage Jewelry Lane Searches on Wish Lists, 16 New. Just to name a few.
Find a wish list item/lane/search relevant to what you sell and post a remark. You might be able to put a link to an item in your shop, but I am not sure, you will have to test it out.
If people are saving wishes it must be for a reason, you might as well post a remark and 'invite' them to check out your shop for like or similar items.
It only takes a few minutes to do it and it is free. And the more shop owners respond, the more often folks might be inclined to save item wishes to their wish lists and review them on a regular basis.
In the Lane searches, click on details, and the list for that particular lane search will show up.
Registered users might not always check out their wishlists but you never know when they will. Like me, I rarely look at my wish lists but now that I am actively searching for something specific I am looking at my lists pretty much daily. In fact I never saved a Lane or Site search until yesterday. Duh.
For example:
Go to Buyer's Wish Lists:
Click on Site Wishes and you will see one that says Vintage Kitchen Canisters. That is my wish I added.
Look down the list for items you sell and add a Remark.
Like I said, I found myself thinking, "Well, they could have a least said hello." LOL --- Just goes to show sometimes it is a good idea to put on the buyer's shoes, get in their heads, and you/me might want to do something differently or do something I/we have ignored doing in the past.

I am new at this and may have looked in the wrong place to find the information but here is my question. I wanted to find your shop so I could comment but went to members and merchants and could not find the name of your shop. Am I also in no man's land by not doing something to list me ? I am learning tons on this site and am so glad I took the effort signing in.
I put a comment on two of my wish list items just now so we will see. It was mention the wishlist and get 10% off , I will let you know if something happens.
Someone on the Ruby Lane site a couple of years ago had a butterfly search where she had you look for the butterfly picture and you got a discount. I spent a whole hour on that site searching because I liked what she had. So I found a leprechaun picture and loaded it on a few of my featured items on the home page and we will see if anyone bites on it. I can easily take the picture off after St. Patrick's Day. Just trying something new.

Yes, you are looking in the wrong place.
Go to Your Shop Owners Page
Look for Buyer's Wish Lists on the Page
Under Buyer's Wish List click on Site Searches on Wish Lists
Look down the list until you come to: Vintage Kitchen Canisters (it should be the third item down the list)
You can either click on Add Remark and say something which only I can read.
Or, you can click on 'vintage kitchen canisters' and see the actual search.
Now that you are on the Wish List page you will see many saved searches where you can add a remark next to the search name listed. Only the person who added the item / search to the Wish List will see the Remark you leave.
Hopefully that helps.
You don't have to actually look for a shop, you just have to look at the Wish List's section on your Shop Home page.
Yes, TVV is a great place to learn and share. TVV has a Premium Membership which gives you more goodies to market your shop!
Cute idea! You will have to share with us how it goes.

Permalink Reply by Ornaments on March 9, 2012 at 8:10am FWIW - I think most sellers don't comment on wish listed items. I tried doing it for a while (discounts, free shipping, mentioning other related items), but it didn't result in any sales. The only response I got was that I had one or two people email and say 'thanks but no thanks'. I have a number of things wish listed and I think I've gotten one comment. I have also tried leaving comments on Site and Lane wish lists with a similar lack of results. Has anyone else been able to generate sales this way? Maybe I'm doing it wrong :-)
The leprechaun idea sounds great! Let us know how it works!

Permalink Reply by CheriShops - Admin on March 9, 2012 at 10:00am I used to leave remarks but stopped for 2 reasons....one I couldn't edit/update them so eg if I remarked "This item is in the RL Red Tag sale etc etc" and then the sale was over and the remark stayed........
and
one item I had left a remark on generated a message from the customer that she thought her wish lists were "private" and that she did not appreciate effectively having sellers able to spy on her lists. I did explain to her that although we saw the item on a wish list, we had no idea WHO the wish list belonged to...
but it did make me a little nervous to respond again.
The only remarks I leave now is if I move the item over to my RP shop and vv
Permalink Reply by Ruby Lane on March 9, 2012 at 1:21pm I think Wish List responses should be generic since we do not have the ability at this time to change the message. There are many as many reason for using a list as there are to not use the lists. For me it only takes a few minutes out of my day to make a connection with a 'potential' buyer. If I get a few snitty remarks once in awhile so be it... I can politely tell them how the lists work and move on. They will either stop wish listing items or they will get 'one' with it.
I can't say for sure just exactly where sales come from with any certainty, all I can determine are the number of visitors coming into my shop and somebody on my Wish List is a visitor and can get a message to them, most others I cannot. I will use any tool to 'maybe' make a sale or spread the word, especially ones that don't cost me anything and only take a few minutes to do.
It is possible the person who wished listed the item didn't intend to buy it but wanted to show it to someone else to buy it for me or for themselves or whatever. If all they do is spread my shop item around and no more, it is still exposure and I will take it.
Just my thoughts. Everybody has their own way of doing things and that is a good thing.

Permalink Reply by Graceful Antiques on July 20, 2012 at 10:23am A whole lot of wishing going on at my shop. Happy when their wish comes true and they purchase the item.
I am thinking of adding a special gift if they let me know they had it on my wish list. Especially if an item has a bunch of watchers. I think they should be rewarded a bit more.
I am glad I will be concentrating on one shop soon as I always did not like removing items or moving them if something was on a wish list.
