Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

I try to not be obsessed about wish lists as I have a few myself  but I have a ?

I sometimes move items from RL to my RP like Seasonal items etc.

Some of my items are very popular on the wish lists. Some of those items possibly I decide to move to somewhere else or off of my shops entirely. So my ? is about etiquette.

1. Is it okay to say in the box that this item will be moving soon to my RP shop or to my RL shop on the RP box?

2. Would it be okay to actually say in the box this item will be removed off of my sites soon (time period) possibly and/or contact me as it may still be available and I can add it back?

I ask that as this coming year I will hopefully moving if all lines up and at different times parts of the inventory will be available and some not? I do know I can add things to the back room at RP but with so many items it can get confusing at times.

--------------

I always feel uncomfortable not knowing what to say in the wish list box period. Hi, I consider reasonable offers?

I see you peeking? I also feel bad if I am checking out something on other shops so do not do it very often. I just try to remember. Sandy

I have the same questions on this.  I don't even comment on the wish list.  I did once when I first started  and got a private email complaining that I was pressuring someone to buy something.  I pretty much quit after that.  All I said is that I would reduce the item if they were really interested. Tthe person said I was snooping in their privacy.  Just call me "Big brother".  I actually waited several months before I reduced the item after that.

I do keep a record of how many times my wish list item  gets sold and it came out to about 33 % last time and some times not immediately but usually in almost 2 months.

I think it is totally acceptable to reply to wish lists and let the buyer know that you are willing to offer X amount discount to "wishlisters".  eg  Sometimes I respond with something like, " Purchase this item before (the date) and send me an email after placing purchase order and I will discount it by X amount and send you an updated invoice."

Personally I don't put comments like that.  I put an item on a wish list a few years ago.  Mostly I was just curious to see if the shop owner would ever get the price they were asking for the item.  The shop owner put in the comment section.

2009-11-15: We just listed this and it is already one of the most popular items on our shoppers' wish lists. Purchase it before 11/25/09 and we will take another $5 off the price. (Please mention this offer at check out.) Thanks for visiting Xxxxxxxxxx"

So now every time I look at my wish list I'm reminded that it's been sitting there for over 2 years now without selling.  I don't think that sort of thing would inspire a buyer to "act now".

LOL  That is hilarious!  ;)

Item had been in the shop for 2 years...wow!

I would remove it,  relist it and if it didn't sell within my own "shelf life" time frame,  it would be "out the door" and off the site entirely.

Relisting it would remove the association with that buyers wishlist unless of course, they re-add it. :)

It's not in MY shop.  It's a piece I'm watching.  But apparently the comments you leave on a wishlist cannot be removed or edited.

OT: I am a snail and have items from years ago. To me the item is just getting older if it is an antique or vintage and it is hard to find items of quality more and more. Especially with the repurposing going on.

I have sold items many times I have had awhile. (don't mind me as I am a vintage packrat)

To me it is rarely about inventory and the right person that adores the item I am sharing just has not come along.

I understand after 10 years dealers all do things their way which is fine.

Why I wanted to see about wish list etiquette.

I am chuckling.

I can easily see someone marking on a wish list and dream item. Why they call it a wish list. In case suddenly money falls out of the sky or something.

I have in my head some items I would love to buy for my granddaughters one day and do look on RL for them.

Even if I have to wait 2 years and the item price has not changed and I really wanted it. Perhaps someone saves up the money?

I have some designer clothing that I will not budge on price and expect some time to sell to right collector.

Some items like antiques may go up in price even. Not down.

Mainely Glass,  I realized that the item was not in YOUR shop.  I don't have the space to be a packrat like Graceful Shops or else things would stay in my shop until I croak at which time, they could bury me with it.  LOL  Especially my Sherman jewellery ;)  I have to either move things via sales or move them out of here,  literally.  If I could, I'd have every closet,  room,  cupboard and drawer filled with vintage clothing and antique porcelain....a girl can dream,  right?

I understand that we all do things differently for different reasons.  What works for some does not work for me and what works for me does not work for everyone else.  I'm in the business to sell, sell,  sell...unless of course,  I fall in love.  Tee-Hee

You are correct,  wish list comments cannot be deleted or edited...that would be a nice,  new feature for RL to implement.

Kindly,

Michel

I sold today the very first item I listed when I opened for business in 1996 today. Teehee...

No. 1. A large Yorktown compote.

Said I was a snail.

Congrats Sandy :)

I love when the items I have had around for so long sell! One of the reasons I don't remove things just because they have been around longer than xyz....

as I have been so busy  these last few months with my new day job, plus son's ongoing health probs, I really have not listed or even promoted much, yet the items that are there are still selling :)

All it takes is the right person looking  for something!
