The Vintage Village

Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

We had been having discussions about SEO and effective marketing for our Ruby Lane shops.

Fine tuning our shops, reciprocal links, all the new attributes, etc.

One thing we did NOT cover thoroughly was the issue of watermarked images.  In the Google merchant area is information that leads me to believe that watermarked images and items with watermarked images do NOT show up in the Google shopping results.

What about Google organic search?

Does anyone have any further information on this question?

I've done a preliminary search for a few items that I know are watermarked in a shop on Ruby Lane, and those items are NOT showing up in my Google shopping results ... and they are not on the first page of my straight Google search.

Any info?

D'Anne,  "Am assuming that your source for this information was talking to a person "in the know" at Goggle directly."  No, I didn't but tech is the one who informed 'us' of what must be done to avoid RL from getting thrown out of the Google feed.  They are the ones who contact Google, not me. Since, Ruby Lane absolutely does not want to get thrown out of a feed for any reason, we are going to go with what we are told. If we thought it was bogus we wouldn't care and wouldn't pass the info along. One less thing for us to worry about. Whether or not Google actually enforces their 'rules' is anything altogether.

Catisfaction,

I know of no way to protect your images online. Wish I did. If someone wants to use one of your photos and has the right program, they can easily remove any markings you put in your photos. That is just how it is. I stopped worrying about it a long time ago for that reason. Now, if someone on RL is snapping up photos and descriptions of your items, then send a note to CS, they will take care of it.

I refuse to think my slowness is due to getting older, no way..somehow, I must be getting lazy, teeheeeee

I can so relate.

One last question - should the photo with text on it be removed entirely  or can it just be moved from the #1 position?  Since it was usually my "best" photo, I want to keep it as one of my listing photos if it won't be a Google issue...

Thanks a bunch,

D'Anne

I am not 100% positive but I believe only the first photo goes out in the feed. So, yes, I think moving it to a different spot would work. I will check it out.
