Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

I can't promise to figure them all out, but if you are really stuck ask and I'll give it a try.

One thing I repeat over and over again is never judge a piece of silver by the presence or absence of sterling silver hallmarks or other silver marks alone.  In case you are interested, here are blog posts of 2 experiences regarding identifying sterling silver via hallmarks I have had with clients and friends.

I Enjoyed both stories! Thanks for sharing! S.G

Thanks!

Wait I do have a Question about a Sterling Baby Spoon, Sadly I do not have a photo though, may I describe it, the Hallmarks I mean?* Edited to add- J.S Co A Indian Head w/ feather-Sterling, & Pat'd,    ??? The spoon itself is simple, arrowshaped at the end of the handle , & Monogrammed too. Thanks in advance for any help given.S G

I have what I think is a Sheffield plate item--potentially a really valuable one.  It has one of those multi-mark type marks, and I've only been able to partially decipher it (thanks to 925-1000.com.)

I know you said sterling, but if I manage to get a good photo of that mark, could we give that a whirl, maybe? I don't have time to do it right now, but if you're willing to look at it, I'll try and make time to get the picture and post it.

Jennifer * Please get in line- I was first! LOL S.G

SG - off the top of my head I think you have an International Silver piece.  It is not JS not IS.  The Indian trademark was one of their many, many trademarks/names.  Without a photo I can't be certain, but I'd start looking for the pattern under Int. Silver if I were you.

Let us know how you get on, and post a photo!!!

I won't collapse in tears if I am utterly completely wrong!

OK Jen - a really great photo and we'll see what we can do.  I make no promises though as I'm not an SP person. :))

SG -

I've had a few more thoughts while making dinner.

My initial post focused on the JS part.  Is it possible it is not JS but IS and thus International Silver as shown below.

Here are 2 more possibilities...

Do any of these match?

Hello Silver Magpies* I found the Company-Yes-International Silver Company- The Pattern Name- Deerfield-AKA-Beacon Hill, & finally I found a site that list more than 10 pieces, The Antique Cupboard, They listed one demitasse spoon -4 1/2" long for $ 19.oo w/ monograms, My baby spoon is 4 1/4" long w/ monogram-Yoile-Oct 25-1914 -4,30 A.M. Maybe I can go ahead & list for the the same price or less??? Having the Company name helped a great deal! Searching for the pattern name was Frustrating! LOL, Thank YOU SO MUCH for all your help. By the way I love Monograms too!  also the last Indian head you put up for me was the closest to what is on the back of spoon. Thank you again. S.G

SG - I'm so glad I was able to help! :))))

I'd list it for the same price.  Yours is worth every bit as much as theirs.  You know what it is and who made it.  If a larger dealer has determined that that is the market price, then go for it.  You can always go down, hard to go up!!!

Thanks also for your kind words about monograms.  You can enter The Monogram Challenge.  :)

I have a silver cuff bracelet marked WFS sterling ~ any idea what this means?

THANKS :>)

Hi Julie -

I'm not a jewelry person, so take this advice for what it is worth :~)

I *think* it may a a Peruvian maker or manufacturer mark.

If you could post a picture of the whole bracelet and a close-up of the mark that would be very helpful.

Thanks!
