I've been Twittering for a while, but it's basically been having my FB page automatically tweet my stuff.
I've added a lot of people I'm following and I've got new followers.
I don't want to overwhelm folks with Tweeters.
I have a smartphone, and I was following stuff on my phone but that sure got annoying when it would beep every 2 seconds.
Do ya'll follow Twitter on the webpage or on your phones or how do you keep up with who is Tweeting what?
And re-Tweeting? What do you re-tweet and how do you choose?
So much to learn, so little time!

I read from my computer...a smartphone...what is that? LOL
Generally it is a give and take with me and most others, it seems. I retweet someone's tweet (one that I choose, not necessarily the 1st one). They will receive a message that I've retweeted and they will do the same in return. Retweet 2? I'll retweet 2...and so on.
I mix up my tweets with occassional tweets about new listings, and probably 75% is more fun social tweeting; otherwise, it gets too "spammy". I retweet a lot of positive motivatonal stuff, and retweet my friends tweets when they've tweeted about a new listing, etc. I usual just use my computer (the old fashioned way) to tweet.
If you check out my twitter you'll see I chat a lot (too much usually!) jenscloset

I'm so glad that you asked these questions Charmed Life. I've been trying to figure things out without much luck. Now that you've done the asking for me, I'll just sit back and wait! Thanks ;) :)

Twitter seems like such a fast-paced thing ... I have probably received 100 new tweets since I posted this question. It has to be easy, or people wouldn't be doing it so much ... and it has to be something that is useful or it would have fallen by the wayside.
I just want to figure out how to use it both socially and for my business without making my friend and potential customers both crazy! (Not to mention driving myself crazy!)

I put TweetDeck on both my phone and my computer. When we travel, I use my phone a lot, it is a godsend.
It's like having a tiny computer in my hands at all times.

I too use my computer for Twitter, I use TweetDeck, I find it more reliable than HootSuite, which I used for a year or so. I'm all over the place with what I tweet, because of my interests and the people I follow. Since we're in the horse business, and I sell lots of horse and dog things in my shop, The Old Grey Mare, I tweet about horses and dogs. Interesting articles I find on antiques and vintage things. I'll retweet other Ruby Lane dealers things, but I find it more interesting to go to their shop, find something fun, and tweet about it, rather than just retweeting something they've posted. I try not to post too many of my own things, because I think it's more like spam if you see "I just listed this" over and over again, too boring and not likely to inspire new followers. In spite of this, I've sold many things through Twitter and I find it's a truly useful marketing tool.

Permalink Reply by The Old Grey Mare on October 3, 2011 at 1:15pm Here's an example of what I think is successful on Twitter Cathy @CharmedLiving. I went to your shop, and tweeted your rhinestone hunting dog brooch. My tweet was picked up by one of the daily papers on Twitter, the Daily Dish by @BMWMediaMaven. So not just my 1093 followers had an opportunity to see it, but all her followers and everyone who is subscribed to her newspaper did as well. She is very involved with dogs, so a target market there. I'd be curious to know if your reports show increased hits to it. Mine usually do when something gets tweeted or makes a daily paper, and sometimes it sells.
Permalink Reply by Charmed Life on October 3, 2011 at 4:25pm I will let you know what happens with my traffic to that item, Dexter. Of course, it doesn't help that RL has been slow and/or down all day.
Thanks for the re-tweet. I'm trying to get my life "organized" in some form or fashion.
Build a work schedule that says I do certain things on certain days or at certain times.
Something. Right now it's just too haphazard for my sanity.
My house is out-of-control, as is my bookkeeping (my hard drive crashed last month and my backups ... well, we won't go there), as is my life.
My dining room table is piled high with inventory that needs to be cleaned, and chosen for either online or our B&M shop. My hubby helped catch up the laundry this weekend.
So much to do, and sometimes it's to the point that I don't know where to start -- so I don't.

Permalink Reply by Charmed Life on October 3, 2011 at 5:34pm I downloaded Tweet Deck ... I'm not sure why you say it would be "just like a robot".
The software seems to make managing my tweets much easier than the website.
It doesn't Tweet on my behalf, I still do my own Tweets. It's just a way to see what's going on with several social networking sites at once. I have my FB account and my Twitter account loaded into it.
I'm liking it.

Permalink Reply by Charmed Life on October 3, 2011 at 5:46pm Goodness gracious, I didn't take offense.
This is all new territory for me, so I'm learning. I thought maybe there was something about Tweetdeck that I didn't know ... if it was running around re-tweeting automagically for me, I'd want to know about it!!!
