The Vintage Village

Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

Hi Glassies :)

We are helping to reinvigorate the Groups here with good content that we hope will bring in lots of Googlebots and of course, new members and potential customers!

So to start I thought it might be fun and informative to have a discussion here about which types of glass are our favorites.

Feel free to add photos, as well as any links to great glass reference sites. No promotion of items for sale here tho ;-)

(I'll copy reference links that are great resources  to the "sticky" area above)

I love just about all glass! but my very favorite is the pressed glass from the Art Deco - Depression era, and especially the vases, bowls, flower frogs and, my most loved, vanity accessories from that period.

Most people are familiar with the classic Depression (and Elegant) Glass made by all the renowned American Glass companies,  but here is a wonderful resource to learn more about the European early 20thC Pressed Glass...get ready for some serious glass eye candy in this remarkable glass gallery!

So, before I write volumes about how I also love Cameo glass, and reverse painted glass, and opal glass and...and....and.....

;-)

what is your favorite type of  glass?

I love mid century modern and art deco glass!  Some of my favourite patterns are by Luminarc/Arcoroc France.  For example, I think their Ruby Red Cavalier glasses are just gorgeous:   I also love Scandinavian glass... like Holmegaard.  So amazing.

oooh those are lovely glasses! :) thanks Pillowsophi

do you have any good reference links for Scandi glass?

Fenton Green Opalescent Grape and Cable

I usually like colored glass, no specific company. Just what catches my attention is when I know I like it:) I love some of the glass that is iridescent....gorgeous when it is clean, and gives off that wonderful shine of soft colors:) Although...I have seen a few clear glass pcs that do have a light iridescent to them that has been adorable too.

I do tend to favor more of the pink, green, and sometimes blue glass too. Bowls, compotes, figurines, and once in a while maybe a vase.

Nice bowl! :)

Opalescent glass really does have such a special allure!

Thank You Cheri!:)
I'm with Pillowsophi..if I had to pic a fave...I'd like the 1950's 60's sleek styles...probably because I was like 9 or 10 then and all the adults around me were entertaining...and I DO MEAN entertaining...the cocktail parties were all the rage, everyone from young adults to grandmas and grandpas had fancy cocktail shakers and ice buckets...wine had not hit the acceptable scene yet and it was the sleek tumblers that were so popular...love talking about and remember glass blasts from the past....

Spoken like a true glassaholic ;-) lol

One of my relatives went to the Spirited Celebration of the American Cocktail Culture that I linked in "Hot off the Presses" discussion here at VV a while back , and they said the cocktail shakers and other glassware was amazing!

Be sure to click thru the photo gallery....such cool stuff!
