Something I've noticed is that interest in different types of glass peak at certain time, followed by a dramatic increase in price. For example, the Loetz & similar Bohemian market recently went through a bubble. I've wondered if the high asking prices are what bring the collapse about. Murano glass went that way a couple of years back.
I've been selling more glass in this past month. The interest in Murano is apparently returning and I think it will be a good Christmas. Hope I didn't just jinx myself. (Knock on wood)
The article mentioned how collectors were holding onto their glass, rather than selling to pay bills. Going a step futher -- I've noticed that good glass is becoming harder to find in estate sales. I thought that maybe the heirs are holding onto it or there may be previews of an estate where the best things are removed. Most of the glass I find is not very marketable on the internet. I miss the old days where you might luck upon a Bohemian, Murano, or Scandinavian vase. Usually I leave estate sales with only a piece or two, or nothing at all. It may have to do with the area I am in -- I don't know. Or maybe I'm being too picky. :)
Enjoyed reading the article. It was good to hear something upbeat after hearing so much bad recently. I think it is going to be a good Christmas for people selling glass.

Permalink Reply by JenniferLynn's Finds on September 3, 2011 at 11:55am I'm just starting to dip my toe into glass, and right now it seems overwhelming. Glass isn't (easily) marked/identified like silver is. I have a bunch of glass and just have no idea where to start in identifying it. There's here and the Glasslovers' Glass Database, but it seems like such a huge job right now.
Anyway, I found this article pretty informative. Thanks for sharing it.

Registration is simple and you can submit pictures and size to the general glass group. There are many members, so many things put on are correctly identified quickly. You'll need good pictures of the glass and the base. If you don't put the base, one of the members will ask for it right away.
If you have a lot of glass, you might want to submit 3 or so pieces a day for help. Some members (including me) get testy if there are too many things all at once. If you join the GMB, I am TxSilver on the board.

Right now, I'm working on getting some hJenniferLynn's Finds Vintrageolloware identified and listed.

Angela's own Glass Encyclopedia is a great reference too
Jen, we also have some reference links at the top of the main page for this group. I'll get a featured thread going this week as well where we can all add more.
Loooooong day so time for some zzzzzz now :)

This noob appreciates any help she can get! I'm certainly not willing to just sell it all in a lot and lose out, and it's very pretty--I just wish I had room to display it in my home, rather than store it in boxes. :(
I have a crystal pickle or candy dish that I could not identify (star of David pattern, scalloped edges,) which I use to hold my business cards at shows. It's beautiful, and I have no intention of letting that piece go. :)
