"The greatest achievement is selflessness.

The greatest worth is self-mastery.

The greatest quality is seeking to serve others.

The greatest precept is continual awareness.

The greatest medicine is the emptiness of everything.

The greatest action is not conforming with the worlds ways.

The greatest magic is transmuting the passions.

The greatest generosity is non-attachment.

The greatest goodness is a peaceful mind.

The greatest patience is humility.

The greatest effort is not concerned with results.

The greatest meditation is a mind that lets go.

The greatest wisdom is seeing through appearances."

Some of these go over my head.... but is anyone out there into this? I love learning about this ancient way of getting through life.

A lot of it is very very deep and not easy to relate to but one of the things that stood out to me in this set of teachings is the line...

"The greatest medicine is the emptiness of everything...."

Our lives are SSSooooooo busy and hectic and stressful and for some reason I think people of today have lost the ability to "let go...." people just don't know how to put problems aside. If you don't learn how to be "empty".... it makes you sick.

When you can clear your mind and calm your body it is the best medicine there is.

Does anyone here Meditate?
I use to, there was a Buddhist centre right around the corner from where I lived, eventually they moved and I continued to go but when I moved I got out of the habit of doing it. Where I live now the only places close by charge money to go. I actually liked going to the center and listening to talks and doing a group meditation and then having tea and cookies afterwards. It's a great way to get in touch with your feelings and to try to stay in the present moment!
I started reading about Buddhism after beginning a yoga regimen, 10 years ago. By nature, I'm a relatively hopped up person (my family would probably say that's an understatement:)) and the peacefulness that I found with yoga inspired me to look further. My first experiences with meditation were very frustrating, I'm just not a letting go kind of gal but, as I do with everything in life, I pushed on...practicing and practicing. Ironically my stubborn nature brought me piece of mind! I like the selfless principle of Buddhism and I feel that clearing the mind with meditation, allows you to focus better when out of meditation. I love to study all religious philosophies - it really gives you more of a "forest through the trees" view.
Great topic Lora!
I was raised a Catholic and it wasn't until my 20's that I really began to "understand" religion.

Now I am an Atheist... BUT.... I consider myself to be very very very Spiritual. :)

I believe in Nature.... :)

That's my Temple/ Church.....:)

Although I don't get into Buddhism 100 % cause it can get very radical, like I am not about to shave my head or be a Vegan... lol .... the concept appeals to me because there is just so much wisdom in it's teachings....

Some of it is really deep but that's what makes it so profound. When you do "get it"... it's like the whole world makes sense. Even the bad stuff makes sense because there is always a lesson in it.

And the overall concept of living in the moment and looking for the peace and the joy and the beauty around you is very very comforting to me. :)

It teaches you to take great joy in even the smallest thing. Like the Tea ceremonies and rituals in having tea.... it seems pretty over the top... but the idea is that you don't mindlessly just drink a cup of tea... you embrace it and allow it to transport you. You focus on the mechanics of it and because you are so involved... you forget your troubles and clear your mind. The ceremony becomes a meditation of sorts.

Not that I would ever get into having a Tea Drinking Ceremony... lol.... but I get what the point to it is. Some folks light a candle and pray.... some spend an hour making and drinking tea.... cool world!!!! :)
