now we are talking doorknobs, this is a doggie doorknob, this knob held the record for $$ for a while.

the design was pattented June 7th 1870 by L Krezinger made by MCCCo & R & E

That is so cool...don't you just love it??? The victorians were so fab at ornamenting everything!

For the real goods, tho', check out the video tour here - there's a solarium on the 2nd floor that is entirely lined, floor to ceiling (and maybe ceiling as well!) with Rookwood tile.
What an incredible place...especially the solarium. Thanks so much for posting that. Kind of sad that's it's obviously been renovated into 3 flats.
I sort of agree with you, but figure that the alternative 30-50 years ago (fate of a number of other once-grand-but-faded showplaces along that street) was having it knocked down and a block-and-brick apartment building put up in its place.

Yep...you are right. MUCH better. I'd love a flat with that kind of period character. We had a victorian house at one time. Had to move because of a job and that was one of the hardest things to leave besides friends.
