I would say fashion accessories since barrettes combs hat pins are not jewels, although they can be. Confusing isn't it?

I think most venus have them listed under Woman's Accessories????

Thanks for your input Barbara :)

The reason I asked is that I am finding them in both categories! especially the hat pins seem to be more in jewelry than accessories and the barrettes etc about equally divided between the two!!

My personal opinion is that they really should be in vintage fashions, but that is me! :0). Especially the Hat Pins, whatcha think Cheri???
Hi Cheri, Is this for Ruby Lane and/or Ruby Plaza, so something else?

Hey Carol

For Ruby Plaza (and perhaps Lane if I get more in)

I tend to think of them as Fashion accessories, but I see most of the hat pins are in jewelry and the barrettes are evenly divided (with some even in Home Decor!!!!!!)

Hi,

If the question is referring to listing items on RL or RP here is the answer:

I have taken the information from the FAQ Knowledge Base on RL and RP.

FAQ KB:  Shop Owners: Lane Requirements and Guidelines: What are the Vintage Clothing and Accessories
Lane Requirement

http://kb.rubylane.com/question.php?ID=272

"Examples of items that can be clothing or fashion accessories: belts, blazers, blouses, boas, boots, caftans, capes, cardigans, chatelaines, cloaks, coats, crowns, decorative hair combs, dresses, garters, gowns, hats, headscarves and decorative scarves, hosiery, jackets, jeans, kimonos, knickers (knee length pants), neckties, purses, robes, shawls, shirts, shoes, skirts, stoles, suits, suspenders, sweaters, tiaras, trousers, tunics, tuxedos, uniforms, veils, vests, vestments, waistcoats."

What are the Antique & Vintage Jewelry Lane Requirements?

http://kb.rubylane.com/question.php?ID=288

"All jewelry items, other than handcrafted Artisan Jewelry items, must be listed in the Antique & Vintage Jewelry Lane. Examples of items that can be jewelry pieces: Necklaces, bracelets, anklets, earrings, brooches/pins, rings, charms, pendants/lockets, cuff links, hatpins, stickpins, dress clips, watches and watch fobs, multiple coordinating pieces originally manufactured to be matching sets, such as parures and demi-parures. "

Items that are not jewelry pieces.

"Examples: Hair sticks or combs, barrettes, pony tail holders; key rings;  clothing buttons; book marks; cigarette cases, lanyards; eyeglass chains; compacts; purses and handbags; decorative zipper pulls; rosaries; trinket boxes, vanity or table top jewelry boxes, commercial presentation boxes originally sold with jewelry pieces that are empty of original contents. FAQ KB: Shop Owners: Requirements & Guidelines: What are the Category Guidelines?

http://kb.rubyplaza.com/question.php?ID=445

Main Category: Jewelry Guidelines

Hair Ornaments

FAQ KB: Show Owners: Faceted Search & Search Clicks: What does Faceted Search mean?

http://kb.rubyplaza.com/question.php?ID=453

"This faceted classification system allows items to be listed in more than one main category, enabling the results to be ordered in multiple ways."

You will need to read the entire answer in the FAQ KB for the above question in order for my answer to make sense.

For listing a hair barrette.

Chose your first category and second category from the Ruby Plaza drop down menu: In this case if would be:

Jewelry: Hair Ornaments:

Then add the type of hair ornament in the Additional Qualifier field:

Jewelry: Hair Ornaments: Barrette

To take advantage of the Faceted Search add: Fashions & Accessories as an additional category, make sure you put a colon  ":" between Barrette and Fashion & Accessories

So your category will now look like this:

Jewelry: Hair Ornaments: Barrett: Fashion & Accessories

But.......... you can achieve the same results by simply including the keyword phrase 'Fashion Accessory' in your item description. For example: Lovely fashion accessory.

Having too many subcategories is confusing to the visitor to your shop because you have an endless list of items/attributes for a shopper to chose. It is confusing and looks sloppy and there is no need to do this as long as you have the keyword in your item title and description.

Remember the faceted search only applies to Ruby Plaza, not Ruby Lane. Ruby Lane has specific guidelines for each category.

I hope this helps.

thanks Carol...I will slowly digest all them words lol!

not sure why anyone would want to put barrettes in Home Decor on RP but if you check you will see them and other fashion items there.....

Yes, I know, big huge Sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Sometimes people just make boo boo's when they are selecting the category and some, well............

I know it is a lot of words........... sorry about that.  I am always afraid I won't give enough information and it will come back to haunt me later.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Carol

Hi Carol

Thanks for the helpful info. I see that dress clips are included in the Jewelery Lane, is this where shoe clips belong?

I have some that have stones in them (if that is what puts dress clips in this lane) but others that are made from Lucite or other materials.

I'm going to list some shoe clips soon so this is a great topic for me. I won't have to be concerned or spend time wondering?

Thanks

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

I think the shoe clips would go in Vintage Fashion & Accessories, but I want to check with CS before saying so. I don't quite get why a dress clip is considered jewelry and not a vintage fashion accessory. I find it a bit confusing, but...  I will get back to you sometime tomorrow with the correct answer.  Carol

I gotta tell ya I am more confused than before lol

so hair ornaments are Jewelry on RP but Fashion Accessories on RL??? Am I getting that right from the Knowledge Base ?

Plus, why wouldn't Dress Clips be jewelry, Carol? Aren't they just like brooches that clip on instead of pin on.

You are not alone Cheri. I am waiting for a 'ruling' from the higher up's. Once I have it, I will let you know. Carol
