Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

I was amazed to find a Victorian brooch in the shape of a hatchet today.

With mother of pearl and a paste stone from my research.

My ? is a hatchet?

Was this something with meaning back then? I may post this in the Victorian section if I do not get feedback here.

I find it interesting the themes in style at certain times. No different then modern times I guess though.

Something to do with temperance? The first thing that comes to mind is Carry Nation and saloon-busting.

Well I'll be. Learn something new every day with vintage.

Fabulous. I just saw a show about this on Who Do You Think You Are.

Alcoholism was rampant it seems at the time.

A keeper for me.

Thank you.

Exactly, it is regarding Carrie Nation, she was known to carry a hatchet. I also had a pin like this a couple of years ago.
