Where Vintage Never Gets Old...

We can't have a Vintage Site and talk about Food without paying Homage' to Julia Child.....

I grew up watching her and one of my favorite recipes was Shrimp Newburg.... what was yours?

Shrimp Newburg

1 pound shrimp
Cooking spray
1 teaspoon Old Bay Seafood Seasoning
1 10.75-ounce can condensed cream of shrimp soup
1/4 cup sherry
1 3-ounce package cream cheese, softened

Peel and de-vein shrimp, removing tails.

Preheat large saute pan on medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes. Spray pan with cooking spray. Place shrimp in pan and sprinkle with Old Bay seasoning. Cook 2 minutes, stirring often.

Stir in soup, sherry and cream cheese until blended and smooth. Simmer 3 minutes. Serve over rice or toast points...

Can't wait to see the movie! I grew up watching her as well. I would love to score a vintage copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking! I have just ordered the original series dvd's on Netflix:) On Sunday night a few weeks ago at 1:oo a.m. we were watching her omelette episode. We had just bought an omelette pan (not non-stick) and she inspired us to have omelette's for dinner on Monday. She made it look SO easy. Well...guess what, it's NOT, HAHAHA! My kitchen looked like a cyclone blew through. They finally turned out pretty tasty but I got a laugh from her calculating that you could feed 300 people with omelettes in about 20 minutes. Too funny!

I used to love watching Julia on PBS. She was great. I have my mom's copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Dust jacket is torn to bits, barely hanging on - but it's very special to me.
Ah! You are a fortunate woman, indeed!

Currently reading Julia Child's book, My Life in France - which is an interesting account of her and her husband's time in France in the late 1940's. She was a remarkable woman, and he was a remarkable man who really encouraged her to do much of what she did.
