I grew up visiting three wonderful great aunts who had an old Georgian house filled with antiques and collectibles of all kinds. That is how my love of antique furniture, porcelain, silver, etc. began. A lifetime collector and dabbler, I began learning in earnest about 19 years ago while assisting a friend in her upscale shop in Florida. And my learning continues on a daily basis as I research items that I want to present to you. Researching the items is one of my favorite parts of having the shop!
My professional background has been in the human services field as an R.N., and later as a social worker specializing in geriatrics. I have both BSN and MSW degrees. I have had my shop on Ruby Lane for almost 5 years!

It is amazing how much of the advertising we see is related around making people, places and things smell better! From soap, detergent, pet products, deodorants and perfumes, our society is very fixated on the olfactory senses. We even have adages that honor the importance, i.e., "like a breath of fresh air" and so on. I am sure that it will not surprise you to know that this fixation on aromas has been with us for…

It is a different world than the one into which I was born. And I am really not all that old! However, things have changed so very much in the last 50+ years that I see absolute trends that will continue to impact the value of collectibles.
When I was young, every girl aspired to have a china and silver pattern. Hope chests were pretty normative and the Lane company made some beauties. Now I look at my son and his family, actually it is almost 100% of the younger people that I…

In the language of flowers Violets mean faithful. My shop is so named after my mother who was so faithful toward God and our family. The cottage part is me, I can never pull off dramatic or beautiful, I'm all cottage cozy, lol. It sounds like your friend was faithful too! Smiles, Theresa @ Cottage Violets

Thank you for your friendship, it is much appreciated. Looking forward to getting to know you all!
Thanks so much for making me feel so welcomed. I think I will like it, too!
Your blog was so right on. It is so true but some of it may be turning around. Ricki Lake did a whole show on lovely things from another age. Everyone dressed in vintage and they appraised things that people had from family. Maybe the next generation will see it is worth something and want to hold on to things that the grandchildren will be tied too because so and so had this. Having catastrophies like what happened last night may also change things because many lost items they dearly loved or remembered. Recycling and the made in the USA may help. So don't dispare. Sadly we may not see it but maybe we will see the edge of it.
