Remembering the red, white and blue

Today's the day!   Happy  Fourth of July!

          We think of the red, white and blue today. 

           We think of flags unfurled and stars and stripes

              Fireworks and  parades and marching bands

                  Barbecues of hot dogs, hamburgers and apple pie

                       Family and friends gathering in honor of friendship and country

                             We hold in our heart and mind the belief in a paper

                                    Remembering men who believed so strongly in something written with pen in hand

                                          Voices speaking out in disagreement and agreement with one mission

             A document which would speak for all, young old, tall , short, rich or poor

             We honor a Declaration for  OUR  Indepedence then and now in this year of 2012

             May we remember the last words of that thin piece of paper covered with 56  names in pen and ink

            as we celebrate another year of the red, white and blue

" And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor. "
