Card makers have cleverly made cards interactive in many ways including games, stories, puzzles, toys and dolls. Paper Doll Cards are not only popular with children but also with doll collectors of all ages! Here are some examples of Paper Doll Greeting Cards from a variety of eras~~

(above) Hallmark "Play Card" for Dear Daughter ~~this charming card comes with little baby and carriage!

Hallmark has long been known for their adorable paper doll greeting cards ~ these next four sweet dolls were part of greeting cards c. 1940s Hall Brothers.
first, is "Janet Sue" "Here's Janet Sue With all her clothes and she has come to stay~sure hope you have a lot of fun together when you play"

Next is "Nancy Lee" check out her pink gloves! "In a hat and dress like this, she'll be a very pretty Miss"

this fun retro redhead has moving arms and legs, made from a Norcross Valentine 1979

I really love these little paper "Walking Dolls" ~so cute! these two are made by Hallmark 1978; even today's kids are fascinated by their busy little spinning feet!

Some paper "dolls" are anamorphic animals~
this 1989 example is made by American Greetings~
"Mandy the mouse and Katy the kitty have come to your house to play, so dress them up in their clothes and they can help you have fun today!"

Paper dolls can reflect social attitudes of the era in which they were made. This cute c. 1980s doll has a woman's lib~girl power feel

These next two examples are fun "finger puppet paper dolls" ~your fingers ARE the legs!
First, is a pretty 1989 Ballerina Birthday card made by American Greetings; "Forget me Not"
~~"...insert fingers and make ballerinas dance!"

and this is a vintage souvenir humorous postcard for Dry Falls State Park.
"Dry Falls Dora" soaking her feet in "Bunion Balm!"

Novo Laugh ~ Novo Card Publishers, Inc. ~ Moderne Card Company

these funny Christmas cards are circa 1950s ~60s marked A Novo Laugh printed in USA

Apparently, Novo publishers was established in the mid 1920s. It appears they used the "A Novo Laugh" logo on their cards in the 1950s and 1960s ~until probably sometime in the 1970s, when for a period of time, the name was changed to the Moderne Card Company~~in the 1990s the company changed it's name back to Novo

Many (if not most...) of Novo Laugh cards have artwork on the fronts, insides, and even the backside.
This humorous Christmas card has little character on the front; it reads, "Let Us Rejoice!"

....inside he bounds......right into a hole:)....Things Could be Woice! Season's Greetings"

In their day this type of studio cards were cutting edge with their sarcasm and bold humor; even today they make me laugh, like this funny get well card...with a miserable sick guy on the front sucking down milk of magne
front reads, "DON'T BE SICK...." inside ......"IT'S UNHEALTHY!"

Novo Laugh cards combine quirky art with wit. Their cards have wonderfully colorful characters. For example, this sweetheart~ with heart mouth and bird's nest in her hair..... it reads, "WITH AGE COMES WISDOM" inside......."HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GENIUS!"

this card makes me laugh every time.....as with many Novo cards, the picture tells the story.........

These next two cards are what I call "girlfriend cards" (and I mean your girlfriend that has a sense of humor:)......) They are sarcastically funny birthday cards which feature fancy Vogue women dressed to the 9s sophisticated and chic!~
The woman in the yellow dress reads....
"I WAS GOING TO SEND YOU ONE OF THOSE
CLEVER, SUBTLE, SOPHISTICATED CARDS,
SO MUCH IN VOGUE......" inside....."BUT, I DECIDED YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T UNDERSTAND IT!.....HAPPY BIRTHDAY"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the woman in the green dress with veiled hat, purse and smoking; reads,
"BECAUSE I AM KIND AND GENEROUS...
I DO GREAT, CHARITABLE THINGS EACH YEAR,
LIKE SENDING FANCY BIRTHDAY CARDS TO........"inside......"THE AGED!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY"
Novo Laugh made some pretty involved specialty cards, like this smoking/tobacco theme pop-up Birthday card..... there's a pack of "Tall Tall" anamorphic cigarettes on the front and "King Size Wishes..."
inside a Bunny pops-up and there is a wee little die-cut hole for the receiver to place the wee little paper cigarettes, which can be found in the envelope!
the back...have a "PUFFECT" birthday....
Novo Laugh cards are creative and clever. Sometimes the laugh is in the embellishment....and, of course the picture........
this Wedding card shows the sweet sentimental side of Novo Laugh cards....:)
Bride and Groom on the front....."Wedding Congratulations.....Now that you are Man and Wife, You've both got~~~
inside....."A Brand New 'LEASH ' ON LIFE! Congratulations!"
.....the chain is really metal...
this "New Look" Kitty Cat Birthday card is so,so, so adorable with rhinestone "Diamond" Eyes "DIAMONDS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND, IT'S TRUE.."
inside continues,
..."BUT HONEY, THIS LITTLE OLD WISH IS~
THE BEST THAT I CAN DO!"
......the back reads, "YOU'RE THE SPARKLER TO ME!"
another one that makes me laugh....... loving the prehistoric graphics.....
on the front a pretty cavegirl ....."ABOUT SOME THINGS I'M VERY COY"
inside......the "coy" girl chasing caveman with a club!......it continues....
"BUT NOT ABOUT YOU~BIRTHDAY BOY"
the back......shows caveman's feet sticking out of cage she's pulling........"MANY HAPPY RETURNS"
