Norman Rockwell Knowles Plate "Waiting on the Shore"

  • "Waiting On the Shore" No. 2 in the Rockwell's Rediscovered Women series issued in 1981. A mother and her children wait on the beach, peering toward the horizon and waiting for a loved one to come home. The painting this plate reproduces originally appeared in Life magazine in 1918, on the eve of the Armistice that ended World War I - it captures the anxiety and anticipation women in every generation feel waiting for their men to return from "over there." Approximately 8-1/2 inches in diameter. Plate is a limited edition and bears number 7469T. Previously owned but in mint condition, still in original box and has certificate of authenticity.
